4 years before the mast

Just completed 4 years in the Royal Australian Navy. 3 and a half of that I was posted to a sea going vessel on operations. Finally got a shore posting this year as an instructor.

To anyone thinking of serving, do it. Best decision I ever made. Let the good times roll.

Congratulations on your service! Im sure your glad to have a promotion on land as an instructor. Keep it up & who knows, maybe in the future, you'll get an officer position, telling those enlistees what to do. Sorry, but I dunno the terminology for the Royal Australian service. I was raised in the US Air Force Reserves, so im sure that your country has rather different wording.

Maybe. Some changes are happening in regards to the rates. I'll be staying a sailor for the rest of my life though. That much I'm sure about. Whether that's in the Navy or Merchant Navy, I don't know.

It's all pretty much the same. I've no interest in becoming an officer though. You have more fun as an NCO, in my opinion.
