Heavy Metal, more than two years ago . . .
I could never use C4 very well as a recon, and gave up in favor of mortar from 300 meters, but I wanted to try it again. I was Russian, and the squads were full so it was me and some other guy I didn't know and haven't seen since. He had moved forward of B, on the right where there are some small bushes and a couple rocks, trying to mortar two tanks on the hill looking down into B. But they kept backing up, repairing where he had no shot, and moving forward.
I came in as assault when the tanks were repairing, and dropped ammo for him, and waited until the two tanks moved up to the crest again; they were about 15 and 30 meters away, and parked to lob rounds into our flag at B. My squad mate dropped a guy coming from the treeline and I realized suddenly that I was in front of the lines, with two tanks and unknown infantry over the crest, and probably going to get killed pretty quickly after they realized we were there. And with that dead guy my squad mate had just dropped, it was pretty good odds they knew right where to look.
I prepped the C4 and ran to the first tank in his 4 o'clock; threw two charges on his right side and kept running behind him detonate without killing myself. Scratch one tank. But I ran up too far, and infantry in the treeline started shooting at me. I fired and threw a grenade, picked up another kill, but didn't stop to notice who or how.
I heard the mortar again on the second tank. He started backing up from my right to left, and I serpentine over to him as that tank backup up and tossed my last C4 charge. As he backed up enough for me to enter his field of view I saw someone enter the tank from the treeline and the gunner's machine gun traverse over to me. I detonated the charge and got the second tank; apparently the mortar had done enough so that the one C4 could finish it off.
I ran to the treeline to clear it, expecting to die but feeling pretty good about myself, and there wasn't anyone left up there. I dropped ammo and my squad mate ran up behind me. I was actually out of breath from the past 20 seconds.
"That's the most AWESOME thing I've ever seen!"
Don't remember how I died, or whether it was shortly thereafter or trying to assault C. Don't remember who won, or by how much. Don't remember whether my k/d was good or not. But it was still AWESOME.
