So I am wanting to invest in a Go Pro camera for the future seeing as how I am registered for the Spartan Race in Dallas in November. If you have one of these cameras, which would you say is the best one to go after. I cant remember if the silver or black version is better. I am definitely open to all forms of feedback. I am aware that it does take a micro sd card for storage, so theres no need to tell me that.

The black is the better version but if you are just buying it for one race... you might really want to look for a cheaper alternative. Although the gopro has great features (I have the original GoPro HD from first gen.) it might be on the higher end of pricing for a 1 or maybe 5 time use. I use mine nearly every 2 weeks due to constantly racing and needing to look at what I am doing while on the track. Helps me practice. But you might want to look at other options such as a Contour HD or even something else. There are quite a few different companies that make cameras now. (And to be fair... The contour is a much better camera. Better quality of video. Better sound quality and pick up. Just an all around better camera.)
Black version is way better. We record all out downhill exploits with it at 50fps @ 1020p.

But in terms of action cameras. GoPro is the way forward. Myself and my best mate bought one of the first gen HD Hero's when they just arrived in the UK almost 5 years ago and never regretted it since. Only once did we have to send it back to thanks to a software glitch, and still using that camera today alongside the Black Edition HD 3.
The settings you get as well such as; rapid fire, photos every x amount of seconds, choice for either upside down mounting etc, means you can basically record anything.

I gotta agree as well. Im in the process of setting up my new rig, which I will be posting a picture in the rig thread sometime soon. I would say that the cpu & ssd will prob be the only differences. But ya, gonna investigate both the black version as well as Contour HD.

Dont quote me on this at all but I do believe the contour HD is cheaper. I might be wrong. But the contour definitely has a much higher audio quality and a somewhat better video quality. But not by much.
The benefit on the GoPro's are the FOV's you get from the lens.
Agreed. The FOV you get on the GoPro's are unmatched.
The main issue I have though with Contour is just the limited mounting options you can have with it. Completely worth the extra investment into the GoPro as you just have a wider range of options when it comes to angles and creativity.

Another point worth bringing up are the interchangeable cases you get with it. You get either:
1) A backing with slots in it, allowing for a much clearer sound
2) A completely en-closed case which is both 100% waterproof, and allows you to mount the camera on the outside of either a car or bike etc when travelling in excess speeds (I think it states 50mph+ on the manual), without the buffering wind sound.
