New case fan

So I just learned that the top vent on my HAF 912 doesnt come with a fan. What would you guys recommend as a decent fan to install into the top? My current scout case has a 140mm fan in it (I believe it blows out the top). Im thinking about facing the air down towards the heatsink to keep it cooler. According to information, it can take either 2x120mm or 1x200mm fan. Can anyone verify otherwise?

Any and all ideas/suggestions are welcome.
 
I would not flip any fans in your case since ventilation is a science on its own and it could lead to air blockage, more dust accumulation and overheating. Stick with the manufactures recommendation setting. In my opinion, use the **biggest fan you can mount, since bigger fans are more silent and more efficient.

The bigger the fan does not mean it is more silent. Whom ever told you that should be corrected. Largers fans create more air movement, blade vibration, and higher speeds to move the larger blades which in turn causes more noise.

You can easily flip fans around how you want so long as you keep a steady push-pull configuration with air flow. Generally you would want to exhaust the hot air through the rear ports of the case and draw cold air from the front.

I use the Cooler Master Megaflow 200mm fan. Its quiet and pulls most of the hot air from the case out of the top. Its a nice fan and you can get them with LED's. But I would honestly recommend a noctua branded fan or Bitfenix spectre pro's. Good luck with your hunt!

But just to clarify - a top fan is not needed on the HAF 912 unless you are truly in a warmer climate.
 
Off Topic: I have been working on computers since I was 11 and to say the least I am 21 now. I am also majoring in Electrical Engineering Tech. I live and breath computers!

Okay I hate to be the guy who comes in after applying to correct somebody but here we go.

A bigger fan? It is quiet, because of the RPM's. a smaller fan will spin at 600 RPM causing more vibration (I.E. More noise) as for a bigger fan spinning at 300 RPM causing less vibration (I.E. Less Noise). The bigger fans will cool better than a smaller fan because they pull and push for air through the case. As for flipping the fans, a case is designed and engineered a certain way for the absolute best cooling you can get.

If you want to cool your CPU better, then I recommend you to get Liquid Cooling. It will have its own radiator and fans for the radiator, so it will remove the need for a fan!

Also to correct the case not needing a fan... If the case has a slot for a fan then I strongly recommend you to add the fan. This will only increase air flow and performance in the cooling aspect.

But all you're looking at is the electrical aspect of it. You are not accounting for the increased amount of air passing through the larger blades which in turn cause more noise. Im not saying neither or both of them are equal. I am just saying that a bigger fan isnt going to be more quiet just because its bigger.

The bigger the fan, the less the motor has to move to have air move around. Look at your ceiling fan for example. It moves slower than a small computer fan and it moves air at a large amount due to the fact that they have larger blades.

Hot air rises. We all know that from elementary/middle school. The fans on top should be put facing up due to the fact that you are attempting to get rid of hot air or the heat from the machine.

I recommend liquid cooling though. CoolerMaster has some good liquid cooling kits that would do a great job at keeping your computer cool quietly. That would probably be the most quiet solution. That or large fans.

And thanks to COOLERMASTER at the event and the COOLERMASTER FIVE Eisberg 240L Prestiges they handed out I think it is a great option.
 
Hey guys, I noticed the 4 pack of Cooler Master & Xigmatek fans. Does anyone have experience with the Xigmatek fans by chance? They just happen to be $2 less.
 
Take an air-conditioner, make it work. Take a vacuum tube thing that comes with one of those old vacuums and hook it up to the air-conditioner. After that bring the other end of the tube thing into your case and you will have the best cooling system NA.
