So I was going through my awards recently and noticed that I received my 5 year award and was like woah?has it really been 5 years that I have been part of eGO and the CS:S division!? Man that is quite some time spent in one gaming community. So I figured I?d make a nice little post since 5 seems to be a nice little miles stone and well why not right?
So where to begin, I guess I should start when I first joined, which was 08-09-2009 I joined the forums after playing on the Dust2 server and Jail server for a little while. I put in my application and was accepted on 09-19-2009. See thread (http://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102066) At the time I was 18, fresh into college as a physics and astronomy major and I was working at a music store while playing CS:S and getting to know my fellow eGO members as well.
I attended events when I could, hung out in vent as much as possible and gamed with some great folks, it was overall just a great time gaming with so many fantastic people. I got to know the admins and even some of the leadership in the time that I was an e and enjoyed every minute of it.
Fast forward to about December of 2009, promotions for the entire community are out and of course I?m looking for my name, and shortly after skimming the list of people I know from the division I find mine. Boy am I am happy to become an eG, what a sweet Christmas gift right. See thread
(http://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113863) Lots of good ole friends in that list that have since gone that I miss, you may even notice one of our previous advisors in there as well if you were around for him. Still though not much changed for me, sure now I?m an admin, not an O, but an eG none the less and now I have some responsibility and rules to hold up. I continue to play and meet great people of course.
Not long after that in February of 2010 about 2.5 months on Valentine ?s Day there are promotions as well. Surely my name will not be up there since I just recently got promoted, but sure enough it is! See thread (http://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120200) As well as my other fellow eG?s who have become good friends with and have been gaming with since the beginning of my time in eGO.
About summer time I decide to put in an application for the event coordinators team. The events are one of the best things eGO has to offer in my opinion. They are unique and the members that put the time into them are great to work with. I had the privilege of working with some wonderful members as an EC while I was part of it such as Evilbear, Christy, Mega and many more. Myself, Bear and others together put a lot of time into making the Hide and Seek mod come to life. I pushed so hard for that because it was one of my favorite game mods on CS:S and I had to go to other servers to play it. Organizing dog tag scrims, doing the e orientation impromptu events, those were some of my favorite times while being an EC.
All in all I have had a great 5 years here. The members and the countless hours spent in Ventrillo, now Teamspeak as well as gaming with everyone has been incredible and I would not trade the experiences for anything else. I?ve seen lots of changes in the 5 years while I have been here from servers to leadership, the URL changing for the site and so much more.
Always remember to have fun and enjoy yourself and the people around you.
