Thinking about upgrading Videocard..

Title says it.

Thing is i'm already running what's still considered lower high end. Radeon 7970OC 3gb.

Love the card, its solid as hell and plays anything maxed. Thing that makes me want to upgrade is the fact it runs out of steam in some games playing in eyefinity (5760*1080). 3gb of Vram is the culprit, hence i want to get something beefier. Crossfire isnt an option as i dont want to end up paying a second rent in electricity bill ;p

So i'd be looking for something with at least 4gb of vram, and that's at least a tad more performing than what i currently have.

Suggestions?
 
Threequestions:

1) AMD a must then for your Eyefinity setup?
2) If no to above, would you be willing to SLI (nVidia's version of AMD's Crossfire)

3) Current PSU?

the R9 280X is a rebranded 7970. heck i could crossfire one of those with my existing card.

yep... that 780 looks like could do.

But man its still near 600$ here in montreal :/ lol

As for the psu, 1200W 80+ gold rated cant remember the name.


I did run an SLI setup prior to having this radeon. And had one of the cards crap out on me. So nah, wont go that route again.

Just because 1 card took a dump doesnt mean it was caused by SLI.

SLI works excellent and it could have easily been caused by another problem in your computer.

Crossfire works well also. I dont really recommend an AMD anything unless your budget is super tight and if all you want is AMD.

Why not? Never had issues with them as far as i can remember.
The nvidias i did own tho gave me headaches as far back as the Ti4600.

This 7970 is solid as hell. just chokes on games with big textures since it's got only 3gb of vram and i play in 5760*1080. Starting to contemplate just dropping in a second one, like the R9 280X, and heat up my room with it since winter is coming... no jokes there.

Because AMD is a budget brand with less optimization at this point. Mantle is still a really new thing to the gaming market and isnt going to be perfect for all games.

AMD cards are notorious to have heating issues and loud fans.

Again, Just because 1 card took a crap on you doesnt mean it was because of SLI. If you're having constant problems with Nvidia then you should probably change which brand of card you're buying. EVGA? Asus? MSI? Zotac? Ect? Try out something else out. Asus has great performing cards. So does MSI and EVGA (sometimes.)
