Backing up stuff on external hd

So im slowly in the process of dragging everything to my 2 external hd's. 1 is a 1tb & the other is a 2tb hd. My question is will my new motherboard recognize the data on the 2 hard drives or will they consider them as new hard drives since theyre both usb 2.0 drives? This is a new experience for me. I know that with regular sata drives, new motherboard means reformatting the hard drive.

Anyone have experience with this process by chance?

I've never had an issue using external HDDs with a new mobo. The important thing to remember is to set the BIOS settings so that it doesn't check USB ports for the HDD, or at least, connect the externals after you're done using a thumb drive to set the new windows machine up and running, and then remove USB from the bios search settings. After that, it should read them as data drive and not as an internal drive, per se.
