Laptop Built-In Mic Feedback

I have to use my laptop for a few weeks because I cannot get upstairs to my desktop. It works fine, runs TF2 and TS.

I have one persistent, annoying issue:

The built-in mic on the laptop is causing feedback into the speakers. I also tried using my headset in the laptop and the results are the same. I can hear fine but if I try to speak, there are terrible screeching sounds. I can't talk in-game or on TS.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Where to begin with troubleshooting?

Have you checked to make sure that the driver for your audio is up to date? Whoever the manufacturer of the laptop is, check their site to find out if they have any updated drivers. It may help to resolve the issue.

I agree with pillar, check and make sure your drivers are up-to-date. Also make sure there isn't an interference.

Does it only happen when you try to use your mic? Or does it happen even when you aren't using your mic? Also, does it only happen in TS? Or in-game as well?

You should go to your sound settings, Recording, Then right click your device and click properties. Click the tab that says listen in the window that will pop up and make sure "Listen to this device" is unchecked. There is a little checkbox next to it right at the top.

Realtek drivers are up to date. It used to work just fine a couple months ago. I used it for a GoTo Meeting for work and at the end of that meeting I got some weird feedback (screeching noises) and since then, the mic won't work.

I had my desktop so I never bothered to try to fix it but now a broken leg has me stuck downstairs with just the laptop. So I tried to fix it again and I was getting robot-like speech patterns coming through the other end when I tried to use the mic. Hammer said I sound like I'm possessed, Exorcist-style. It's not isolated to TS- it's Skype, in-game, anything that uses the mic.

Now I followed Cloakedsphere's instructions and when I log into TS, I get the loud screechy feedback again coming through the speakers constantly, not just when I use the press-to-talk.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron N4010 with Windows 7 Home Premium.

I tried configuring my Razor headset but have the same issue with it as I do with the built-in speakers and mic so I took it off to troubleshoot.

Im not sure whats wrong with it then. Generally the feedback problem is caused by that box that I told you to uncheck.

Have you tried other headphones? Other laptops to make sure yours are working properly? Is there any wiggle or play in the audio port on your laptop? You could potentially have a bad connection.

you could go into device manager and uninstall and reinstall drivers to see if you have corrupted drivers. in the process uninstall go to meeting and reinstall that also. you could also try a system restore to restore it before issue started.
