This is the first ice water bucket challenge I've ever watched.. what's the internet even doing anymore..

It all started when a man with ALS challenged his friend to dump water on his head or donate to the ALS foundation, he didn't expect his friend to donate but he did dump water on his head and nominated more people do do the challenge or donate. When the man was interviewed he stated that his goal was to bring awareness of the disease and what it does to the human body. It has gained a ton of awareness for the disease and also raised almost 10 million dollars since the challenge begun(could be past 10mil now). The disease attacks the nerves and in most cases the victim deteriorates very quickly. It has no cure and they have no idea what causes the disease. That is why this challenge is out there and why the internet is doing it...Yea its fun and silly to watch and even participate but overall how many people has it helped and affected in some way? Just seeing so many people participate and the mass amount of donations has to give the victims and families some hope that someday it will be curable. Thats why I dumped water on my head, thats why I donated...

I'm not against this and think it's a cool and fun new thing, but someone living in California, going through a serious drought, I cringe at people who live in California, complain about the lack/usage of water, but do this challenge -.-

Props though, must have been cold~

They should do what Matt Damon did.

What will you do when they find out that one of the most common forms of ALS begins with dunking your head in ice water? something to think about ;)

And why is matt damon filling his ice bucket right next to the toilet with the seat up? is he dunking himself with toilet water? I dont think that is part of the challenge...

I notice many videos of people doing this, but not many mention this:

http://www.alsa.org/donate/

Im sure its easy to find, but just including that for any that want to look through the site.

I'm glad this terrible disease is gaining more attention.

My grandfather had and died of ALS and Alzheimer's Disease, doctors said he was almost lucky to have Alzheimer's so that he wouldn't remember he had ALS.

Also, this all reminds me of Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, not sure if any of you have read it. It's a sweet book.

Ah, this is nice. I did it awhile back along with donating for it.

Glad to see more people are as well!

It's great that this challenge and all the homemade videos we're seeing is raising awareness about, and funds for ALS, but I tend to agree with some that the original spirit of the challenge itself has been lost in translation.

One gentleman recently posted a video explaining this better than I could ever hope to, albeit with some very strong language. I won't be posting a link to his video here due to the questionable language he uses in it, but if you think you are mature enough to look past that and listen to what he is explaining, then you should be able to find his video by Googling his name, "Dean Ditty".

Put salt in it... Makes it colder with all the ice
