The terrain before you is covered in ash and rock, with volcanoes erupting off in the distance. It is difficult to move your Mech in a straight line. The valley you are in offers little cover. You wonder how this planet could have any strategic importance, and why command wants it so bad. Suddenly your radio comes to life. "This is Bravo team reporting in, no enemy contacts yet". Suddenly, your commander yells; "I got contacts!" You see laser fire coming from the top of the cliffs, shooting out in all directions. The sounds of machine guns fill the air. Your commander screams; "Falling back from grid G4!, it's too hot! My Mech is in critical condition." The firing continues overhead. "This is Bravo team, we are on our way to render assistance, hold on Alpha". After what seemed like eternity, four Mechs jump jet across the top of the valley, firing their lasers and machine guns, drawing off fire from the injured Mech.

You finally make it out of the valley, your weapons are ready and your armor is undamaged. However your Mech is running hot. Looking over your dashboard, you round the corner of a large rock and see the battle in its full glory. Smaller Mechs dance around larger Mechs. A massive one is smoking, but still firing, even though it lost its right arm. The Radio is filled with so much chatter, that you tune it out completely. Your eyes fall upon a damaged enemy Mech and you quickly bring your weapons to bear. The distance is eight-hundred and seventy meters. You zero your sight in, and fire both of your long ranged particle cannons. You see blue sparks, and the cockpit of the enemy Mech explodes, followed by the rest of the enemy machine. You say to yourself, "One down, only four more to go".

Mechwarrior Online is a first and third person Mech battle game. You are pitted against other Mechs of different shapes and sizes. Each having a major role, MWO follows the rules of the eponymous table-top game. The Mechs you can choose from are Light, Medium, Heavy and Assault Mechs. Each with its own weight limits and weapon systems. The light Mechs need to scout out enemy locations and stay alive, while the medium Mechs support the heavy Mechs in attacking/holding their ground. The assault Mechs are used to break through the enemy lines and flank around.

Mechwarrior Online currently has 3 game modes; Conquest, Assault and Domination. Conquest is a capture point based game-mode. You can either capture the points, or destroy all enemy Mechs. Domination allows 2 teams are to duke it out in a classic team death-match, or they can capture the enemy base. Assault is like Domination, but the bases have gun turrets.

What makes Mechwarrior Online different from all other Mech games, is the fact that you can customize everything. From weapon systems, engines, jump jets, and much much more. On top of that you can customize your cockpit dashboard with vanity items, but you have to pay real money for most, or get special promotional items from websites or gaming magazines like PC Gamer. You can also change the paint of your Mech, however patterns and some colors are require micro-transactions.

Each Mech has to be built differently, depending on the chassis. All Mechs will be different because some Mech variants might use lasers or ballistic weapons only. Some might even only use rockets! The are also premium Mechs which give bonuses. All premium Mechs can be built with in-game currency, but they will lack the various bonuses. Since MWO follows the Mechwarrior tabletop games, balance is pretty good, however there are so many builds it can be hard to keep up with them all!

Mechs generate heat, and heat sinks are necessary to manage it. Weather on certain maps can also effect your core temperature. Another important aspect is how your choose to armor your Mech. For example, you can choose light weight armor, which allows more room for weapons, at the expense of less protection. Customization can really go in-depth, and Mechwarrior Online has a tutorial system to help newcomers adapt to the nuances of the game. And don't forget to visit the training ground to test your Mech designs before going into battle!

Ok so i know i am not the only person that plays Mechwarrior online. In the recent update a clan function has been added. It may be bare bones, but it is better then nothing.

I want ahead and created a clan called 'Colonial Dropshock Mechanized Corp". The sole purpose of this clan is for all the eGO players to join up and game with each other. This clan does not represent eGO in anyway as we do not support this game.

The game is free 2 play and is NOT on steam. The main website can be found here. In order to be in the clan, i will need to add you to my friends list and invite then though that. My in-game name is 'Dutchoper72'.

Have fun and good luck!

I keep meaning to get into Mechwarrior but I have plenty of other games I never play as it is.

I'll have to launch this game again for the free stuff I'll never use. Thanks for the info.

Being constructive here.

First thoughts

Free game = Check

Clan interaction = Check

People Play it = Check

eGO Cost = Forums = Free again = Cool

I don't see any harm in giving it a go

This game looks neat, I'm still thinking about getting this game

It is really fun, but i play it time to time, way too many games to play. I want to make a note that MWO is not like HAWKEN at all. MWO is more slow paced and their is no respawn. Plus customization is over the top in MWO.

It's fun but It feels totally different from MechWarrior 2: Mercs and 3 I wish it followed the table top rules

That's how it was when I participated in the closed beta. But I heard that due to balancing issues they had to change some weapon values. Such as the "Streak Catapults" by just having streak missiles for every weapon slot which was totally annoying as hell on the other side of it.

I think the clan mech missiles are more of a pain, but they did buff the AMS system.

They barely give you C-Bills for anything in this game though I use the trial mechs but I like to edit my loadout..

I make enough, but i don't use trial mechs. If you buy 1 day prem. and play all day you can make 10mil +
