Let's have a discussion about music. Are there any musicians out there that play an instrument? Drums, guitar, bass, like to sing? Or a string instrument in an ensemble or a brass or woodwind? Tell: What instrument, how long you've been playing, any lessons, stuff like that.

To start, I've been playing guitar, both acoustic and electric, for 2 years now. Never had a lesson in my life. I also know some bass and piano, and use FL studio to make anything really. I've played in many different bands in the past, mostly as a guitar player and/or backup singer. I played bass on one occasion. I've gigged numerous times at local hangouts like an Oskar Blues, things like that. I love Rock and Hip Hop music.

I've played bassoon for years now, and I play electric bass in my highschool's jazz band (self-taught).

Those are my primary instruments. I'm somewhat skilled at guitar, piano, and alto saxophone. I've also dabbled with tenor sax, clarinet and vocals in the past. I've never taken private lessons for anything except for bassoon a couple times maybe two years ago.

I've thought about playing professionally in the future or perhaps joining a band a few times :/ It's nice seeing you're into gigging, I wish you good luck with your future musical endeavors :D
 
I play some piano. I like to sing, although I am not very skilled with my voice. My brother also sings and plays piano, and he is WAYYYYY better than me.

That's awesome man. Bassoon isn't an easy one to play. I'm glad to see another Bass player, it's an awesome instrument. So much fun to play a walking bass-line! And jazz is my go-to music for jamming with friends, rhythm section is always great.

Don't say that, everyone is a good singer with the right context. Look at Lou Reed or Bob Dylan. Terrible singers, but they were successful because they're music fit the voice. And, piano is excellent, I wish I had taken lessons when I was younger.
 
I've played the Tuba for a little over 4 years now. Started in 6th grade, and I just started 10th grade last week. I've played sousaphone (basically a marching tuba) for 1 year in my high school's marching band. I recommend it to just about every new musician, assuming you are fine with the size of it.
 
Well let's see where to start here.

Singing - All my life.

Saxophone - About 5 or 6 years now. Played in marching and jazz bands at my high school. Now play in a local jazz band. I play a silver cannonball alto saxophone. I love that thing.

Guitar - 2 or 3 years now. Sounds great with singing too. I don't own an electric yet, I'm looking to invest in that in maybe a few months but I've always played acoustic.

Piano - Only for about a year as of now. I don't read music when I play, however. I simply watch a video of someone playing a song I want to learn and I play it after I watch them.

Lessons - No, never had a single instrument lesson in my life. Unless you count being a part of a band where they teach you rhythm, etc.

P.S. I forgot to say I have played various performances with my singing and instrument abilities. One example would be, I sang and played piano at my high school prom. Man, I love performing. That was such a blast.

Tuba is awesome. A bit large, yet awesome nonetheless. Sorta the Double Bass equivalent but for horns instead.

Dude, that's fantastic. Electric's don't cost much at all if you can find the right deal, you could probably score a cheap strat for about 100$ if you look hard enough. I don't read music for Piano either (or for any instrument, really...). And, you're lucky you can perform easily like that, I begin absolute shutdown mode out of nervousness right before any performance. Once I get up to the mic and begin, I'm fine, you know, but still.
 
I play guitar and have for 3 years with no lessons. I have played trumpet for 9 years, learning through band in middle and high school. I sing and have worked on making my voice stronger and better for about 2 years now. I've played tuba, baritone and alto saxophone just goofing around in the band room

I play the piano (currently certified as Grade 6 but can play pieces up to Grade 8).
Also play the guitar occasionally (chords)
 
Back in school I played the viola in the orchestra (initially was an easy class to relax in, and the boy:girl ratio was like 1:8). Still have it upstairs in my closet. God knows it's out of tune right now though since I haven't touched it in years... Also have an electric guitar, but my abilities on that are pretty low.

Viola rocks, I have a friend who plays it. And, Electric isn't hard to learn at all, it's easy then Acoustic if you ask me thanks to a smaller neck. Message me if you want any advice man.

I played Clarinet my 6,7,8,&9 grade years until I dropped out this year due to too much drama and stress in the band especially after the best band director sort of retired from the band after I joined by influence of him. Otherwise I have no musical talents. I can not sing the greatest nor have I taken any type of chorus class since 5th grade.

Different from what most people have posted in here but I'm slowly, I stress slowly, learning how to compose and produce my own music.

I have been ghost writing for various artists (small, unknown artists) for about 4 years now
