Well, I heard this from my friend yesterday, and he said that in a soon update, they are going to have unlockable weapons (maybee customizeable too?) and new gametypes. Is this old news? Anywhere I can take a gander at some news about it?

Thanks.

I have a couple articles in the writers forum if you want to know more about them. Basically, some time in the near future we're getting a new game mode, 30 new achievements for each class, and 2 new unlockable weapons for each class.

Wow, Crysis has a really bad nuke effect. They need to work on that. World in Conflict would make for a great role model.

that be good if they did that with the new customizationable weapons

Red Comet - That was the hand-held nuclear bomb. Here is the TAC Tank which shoots a tactical nuclear projectile. I agree WIC's nukes are pretty cool, but here's the link to the TAC Tank.

Nemo. u read my mind!! but that gun has a stupid lock on system u cant fire it unless u have a lock on

Unlocks = gay.

We had this in BF2 , as soon as you enter competition (ex: CAL) , they disable it all because it's not everyone that 'unlocked' their weapons , therefor it's not fair to everyone.

Moral is that I never used them because you get screwed in matches (switching back , and you're not used to the old weapons)

My 2 cents.

i agree unlockable weapons means that skill required is diminished
i really don't want that

You can open up the sandbox editor and give yourself the gun or tank or both, turn on god mode and unlimited ammo. The you can play the level in the editor itself (all objectives and enemies are still there). You don't need to lock onto anyone :)

The thing I don't get is how you can shoot down the trees and break off the branches and yet the shockwave from the nuke doesn't level all the trees? What's up with that??

I love Battlefield 2 and the unlockables there, but I think the balance that has been developed over the last 9 years of development in Team Fortress 2 would be hard to maintain after introducing unlockable weapons. If you have a lot of people on one side that have unlocked weapons and the other side doesn't, it could be near impossible to gain any ground. The comment on not being able to use unlocked weapons in tournaments and leagues is a valid point too. If you play too often with the unlocks it would take awhile to get use to the standard guns again.

Unlockable weapons = bad. And yeah the only dumb think about those nukes is that it wont take out buildings or trees like you said... But at least it looks cool!

If they can balance all the unlockable weapons, then I say go for it. I'm just worried that all the people trying to get into the game for the first time will be so owned that they'll give up. I've seen it happen.

Crysis - Just a few days ago I gave my copy of Crysis away... and that video made me cry because of it. I want nukes!!! It would nuke my framerate to oblivion, no doubt.

I'm going to give Valve the benefit of the doubt, and hope that they do unlocks right. Looking at the medic achievements, it seems that it'll be easy enough to get half of them (e.g. heal a spy, heal a sniper, heal a soldier, etc) that it'll be the exceptional players in any class who'll unlock the second item.

What we'll end up with, then, is dedicated players who know how to use a class, and a sort of natural stratification based on that. Weather Valve has engineered things to work in that framework or not is the quesiton.

im sure if they do unlocks it will be an option on the servers.... if it hurts the quality of play im sure we'll be able to ditch it!!!

The only way I can really see this work well is with a more advanced auto-balance algorithm. IE, not just balancing the number of players on a team, but also balancing the number of players with unlockables on a team. The last thing you want on a team based game is for one team to have an overwhelming advantage. The thing I like most about TF2 is how easy it is for a new player to just jump on and start playing. Nothing sucks worse than jumping into a game and getting owned immediately. In the past, I quit playing some games because of that problem.

Well, even if one team did have all unlockable weapons, and didn't use normal ones, it would still be a pretty balanced fight. All the weapons will be balanced, lets take the overhealer for example. Yes it permantly boosts health to 200% of normal hp. But, it'll either charge uber really slow, or not uber at all. So valve has left players with a problem. Let people uber, but only with temporary 150% hp, or permantly have 200% hp, with very little ubers. The same thing for everyone elses unlocked weapons.
