My title at work is "Senior Software Engineer". I lead others in design and development. Mostly N-Tier server side stuff (no user interface), although I've also done my share of web based applications.
I have an undergrad in Computer Science and a Masters in Software Engineering.
I had..hmm...maybe a total of five classes where I REALLY learned something. And those where the "deeper" classes, spatial trees, network programming, and crap like that.
I'm pointing that out.. because if you can't teach yourself, then your in trouble.
Schooling/Classes will teach you only the basics. It's purpose is to expose you to the "fundamentals".
Real world programming is far "deeper" than what you would learn in a class.
