Want to show server stats in your avatar/signature?

It was mentioned tonight in the meeting that I've been working on something for the Rangers. I think i've got it just about finished so here we go.

I got the idea based on a couple posts i saw from Attikus and Chrisbliss18 in a post. I know some people have been using the signatures that have our game servers listed in them. This is a new twist on that.

My app polls our TF servers every couple minutes and creates avatars with that info showing which servers are low on players or admins. The avatar is of course smaller, so there is only room for one. The one chosen for the avatar is based on how our servers are ranked on gametracker. Higher ranked servers get priority for displaying on the avatars. The signatures afford me with more room to display text so all servers are listed there.

Avatars
If you'd like to use one of these avatars, just copy the link below one of these avatar images. Goto your site settings by clicking on the "Settings" link on the left side of the page and paste that link into the box where it says "Use remote Avatar" and click save settings.

Signatures
If you'd like to use one of these signatures, copy the [ img] tag below the image you'd like to use. Goto your site settings by clicking on the "Settings" link on the left side of the page and paste that link into the box where it says "Signature:". You will need to remove the space in the first [ img] tag. I had to put the space there or it would count it as an image tag and display the image in this post.

Custom Images

If you follow the guidelines in that post and get me the image i can set it up so your custom images can be used to display server stats.

does it update or somthin? or is it just stationary and you have to change it yourself

The stats that it displays like number of players and what not? That updates itself every 3 minutes. You don't have to do anything special. You just put that image in your avatar/signature and the image updates itself. You don't have to do any extra work.

Just note the time and the server stats on my signature then come back 4 or 5 minutes or later and refresh the page.

His script periodically replaces the images with updated ones. You only have to link to it once though.


I'm really happy with the way the font turned out against that blue-gray backing.
