So I started having this problem withing the last 48 hours. A lot of my programs upon opening stop responding almost immediately such as VLC player, POT player, KM player, this happens when I try and play a song of any file type that is supported or a video of any file type.
Other programs that are effected are things such as visual studio 2013, i'm not sure if office 2013 is affected as well. Steam is also affected. It updates or tries to update and then closes and that is it there is nothing in the task manager or processes tab after it closes (Note that steam is installed on a separate drive than the previous mentioned programs)
Recently I have cleaned out my computer basically just dusted it out, the C: drive came detached from the SATA cabel (I don't see this as an issue.) I installed a program from logitech for my mouse a keyboard and have recently uninstalled it. I think that is about all I have done as far as software and hardware changes.
Things that I have tried so far to fix this:
Ran Malware Bite (found some issues and had them deleted)
Ran ccleaner (no issues)
Ran Microsoft Security Essentials (quick scan on my C: drive, no issues found)
Did a defreamentation on my C; drive
Ran Error Checking on C: drive (this seemed to help at first. Since running error checking has to be scheduled to be done at the next restart I did so. Once it was done with the checking and it booted into windows programs seemed to work. After restarting after that it went back to everything not responding)
Ran Memtest (2 passes no errors)
Currently running Spinrite on my C: drive and on my Terabyte drive that holds my games and steam.
Thinking it may be registry problems perhaps, but not sure? Any thoughts and recommendations are welcome.
