It happens all the time that I'll see the enemy climbing a ridge but they'll be too far away for me to spot. If I have the time and I'm not in a bad position I'll say something to try and pinpoint where they are. I see other people trying to do the same but a big problem is that there are no conventions in the description.
In a fit of nauseated boredom I made the map below, but we don't have to be that complicated. Just using the cardinal directions - North, South, East, and West would make things much clearer.
