Creating TF2 server with a spare PC?

I've got a few mates who have recently got TF2 and we're thinking about making our own server just for us to play on. (I will of course be inviting them to join EGO)

I've got a spare PC. Its an AMD64 3800 with a gig of ram and 500gb hd space. Currently running xp.

Would I be able to get a server running on that? What would the performance be like?

If you can give me any info I would really appreciate it.

You'd need to know specific numbers. More specifically you'd want to know your upload speed, which is the deciding factor in hosting a server.

Good place to test it: http://www.speedtest.net/
Just make sure not to test your connection to a location near you, it will skew the results because of the proximity of the site.
 
The server setup is pretty easy. Recall that you'll have to have a separate Steam account to run the server and your client at the same time. (or at least that was a problem I ran into when I set up a server on my laptop for a LAN.)
 
i have an old steam id with hl css and ep1 on it but someone had cracked the acct and it was baned for VAC violation years ago but i still have the info, would it run a server without issue do you think?

do they ever remove those perma bans? i hate wasting 50 on a game they lock me out of
obviously buying it again wasnt fun eiither
