Weeks ago I found an exploit, and fforgot about, and checked in our server to see if it was fixed, it isn't. Building your sentry in a certain corner in the intel room, and [link=http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k283/Thicket/glitch2.jpg]standing[/link] on it, the sentry then becomes unsappable.

Are you sure? I've been building sentrys there all the time and spies have sapped them without any problem! :S

I think he means if it is there AND you stand on it.

Of course he did invite an enemy spy to come check... I was MORE than willing to "welcome" our "guest."

I will look into it tonight when I get home from work but I don't think its impossible to get around especially if there is a dispenser there for the spy to jump on and back stab from. Either way if anyone can prove or disprove this before I get home then be my guest.

It's only "unsappable" because the engi can destroy the sapper immediately and the spy can't easily get behind the engi to stab him. It's not an exploit, it's a common tactic.

Let me explain more, if you right click to turn the sentry all the way around, build it as close to the walls as possible build it to level three, and stand on it, spys can't sap it unless they stand excatly next to it, and keep mashing their mouse buttons. (just making sure that everyone checked the links in my 1st post.

Yes, like Signe said.
"It's not an exploit, it's a common tactic."

I see lots of people build there and do the same thing all the time.
Nothing out of the norm.

I am almost certain it can be sapped. The spy can sap buildings from all direction including front. If the spy really want to sap it, he just have to walk right up and place the sapper thingie. You cannot out wrench the sapper, so your buildings will eventually be destroyed unless you kill the spy(s).

The fact that you indicate said spies would need to keep mashing their primary fire button forces me to conclude that sapping actually is occurring.

Are you, or are you not, breaking the sappers immediately with your wrench?

No, I see what he means. This can happen in quite a few corners on a few maps, it's not really an exploit. For some reason the spy just can't place sappers on when the engy is standing on top of the sentry just right.

If you can con the engy into moving a bit, then you'll get it. It's not too difficult.

This has happened to me on 2fort as well, in one of the corners under the battlements.
I mashed and mashed my mouse button to the point of exhaustion, and it wouldn't get sapped. Someone else in the server mentioned something about this and then it was later forgotten.

Personally I don't think it's fair if you can't sap the sentry. Seems more of a bug to me. %-6

Part of my monkey fame is that when I build a sentry, I usually live on top of it. Keeps me from getting shot by my own sentry. I've built in every corner of the Intel room in 2fort and had intrepid spies work sapper and knife magic on me. It's an opportunity to build your spy skills to new heights!

Thank you for keeping us informed, though. Even if this isn't an exploit, there will absolutely be exploits in the future that we may not notice. It's important to keep the discussions coming so that we can fix problems that do arise.

Yeah Owl and I tried it out last night and basically if the Engineer stands on it just right then the spy can not apply the sapper on the gun where the engi's foot is blocking him. Now the spy either has to lure the engineer away from the gun or do a suicide backstab (if the engi is stupid enough to turn his back to him) now the only case we were able to get past this with the spy is if the engineer puts a dispenser beside him from which the spy can hide from the sentry after the backstab. I am borderline on the idea that this is a tactic not an exploit but I will leave the decision up to the council unless Valve fixes it for us.

Ya thats what I always do.

Okay, I get it now. But, why should a spy be expected to put anything through an enemy player? Wouldn't that render his weapons useless?

Building a sentry halfway between the main spawn door and the outside...now thats unsappable. It's destroyable though. Same goes for building it partially in the resupply room down the straight stairs leading to the Intel.

It is sapable, but the best place to put the sentry is on the telephon, because spies cant backstab you if you are on top of your sentry
