Problem with in game username

With TF2 my user name is just my steam user name/nic. My steam user name is =(eG)=DeadManRunning[7]. I am an eG in DOD but not in TF2. In CS:S and DOD I can change my in game name to reflect my rank on that server. When I am in CS:S I use an =(e)= in my in game name instead of =(eG)= to show that I am an e in CS:S were as in DOD my in game name has the eG in front to show my rank in the DOD side of eGO.

When I join a sever in TF2 it automatically has my name as my steam user name/nic. How can I change this in game? Or do i just have to change my steam user name/nic?

TF2 uses the steam community name unfortunately.

I feel you. When I got the game I couldn't for the life of me figure out why 'name' in console wasn't doing anything.

I had the same problem for a while as well.

i believe this was done to make it more difficult for mygot-type ragers to terrorize servers and constantly adapt new names to keep from getting banned.
