DOTA 2 Guides?

I just started playing. What are your favorite videos or written guides for noobs? Your suggestion for a good starter character?

Some of the stuff might be 'outdated', such as when it mentions Sentinel/Scourge (which was done by me.. >.<) - Replace these with Radiant/Dire

I believe most, if not all the posts on it are compiled onto the first post, but either way it's a good read.

Also if you want you could try the training 'missions' in-game (Not sure if it still forces you to do it before doing anything else, but either way it can help you get the feel for how some things work

Try watching Draskyll play on twitch and notice how he does things. He doesnt mess around like other streamers and his play is fundamentally sound. For beginners I recommend playing support Lina. Super easy and just stay behind your teammate and help him when he gets in trouble until you are more comfortable with the game

There's an in-game feature where you can use the builds that other people suggest. It also tells you which abilities you should level up for each time you level. It's really helpful.

Job- I actually started playing some bot matches with lina a couple days ago and I think I am going to play her until I get more used to the game. I will probably play some real matches tonight and see how it goes.

Great! I Just started playing MOBA style games so this will be interesting.

I've been playing LoL the last week or so and have been enjoying it. I want to give DotA2 a try now that I'm somewhat familiar with MOBA's. I want to see which one I like better, plus I like the thought of being able to play a MOBA natively in Linux.

Just be warned, I have no idea about ANY of the champions in DotA2. With LoL, I can semi play just 1 champ, since that's who I spent my time learning with.

The concept is pretty much the same in LoL as it is Dota - support-based heroes (Which are just about most if not all the Intelligence heroes, and some others) go for support based items, Carry's or those that go mid generally go for DPS, and Initiators (Or the ones that start the fights - such asEarthshaker or Tidehunter, to name a couple) go for beefy builds to carry out their effectiveness.

I believe you can find out which hero is which role in the Heroes section of the Library on the main menu or main screen..Use to be able to identify it in-game via symbols but it seems they since removed that.

Yes. But you have to earn points from playing games to do it.
