- Get to know your recruitee:
• How long have you been in eGO/DOD?
• Have you been in any other Division and what games do you play?
• Are you familiar with Maul?
• Do you know the application process?
• How are you doing today?
The Recruiting Process
So you are interested in recruiting for EdgeGamers or more exclusively for the Day of Defeat Division? Well this thread will show you how! Right now, our current view for recruiting is as followed: Quality over Quantity. What does this mean? Well, it means that we are NOT looking for numbers when it comes to recruiting, but great new people that we can hang out with! But recruiting is only half of the process. The other half is to get them to be active in EdgeGamers! More info on how to do this is written below. So, let's start off on how to recruit someone into eGO.Attitude:
Everyone has good days and bad days, but when recruiting you should be having the most fantantasical day in the world! A good attitude is very infectious and that's what we want to do, infect the new members of DODs with how amazing our organization can be. We want them to go away from the game having a positive attitude, wanting to come back for more.
This DOES NOT mean you should be taken advantage of or cater to the whims of every person, but a reminder that people like to be treated well. It's amazing what a simple hello *name* in Teamspeak or game can have on a person. You can hear the inflection in their voice, positive or negative, it's not all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows.
Approach:
There are a variety of different methods that recruiter's use and in this class we will be teaching the most effective and the least effective approaches to recruiting.
The most effective approach when recruiting is a personal approach. You will want to add the new member on steam, so you will be able to communicate with them better, as well as being able to help them through the application process. This is where your interpersonal skills or people skills will come in handy. Chat them up about eGO, what brought them here, hockey, the weather, whatever it takes to create a basic relationship. This will help when walking someone through the application process.
Some recruiters will also psay the person, before they add or when they add them on steam. Psay is more direct, than say trying to get a potential members attention in the chat box. If you do get a response from the server or someone saying "I want to join", then that is your cue to respond and add them on steam. Some people won't need to be chatted up and are eager in joining and sometimes they will even out talk you, rare, but it does happen.
It does work, but we tend to shy away from using and all chat messages when looking for recruits. It seems to be indirect and not as personal as some people like. That being said, I have recruited at least 2 people that way, but it is rare and you would need to add them on steam ASAP.
There is no 100% guarantee that even if you follow every step to the T that you will get a recruit, but it is paramount we equip you with the tools and capabilities necessary for recruiting.
Half the Battle
We all know half the battle of recruiting is getting the person to add and respond to you, but now there is the other half that can be difficult and potentially overwhelming for a new recruit, the application process. Remember, until the recruit has registered and been accepted on the forums, the member is not yet a part of eGO.
Since some of us are very familiar with the application process, people may feel it is redundant to go through the application process, but I cannot stress enough how much attention to detail is when it comes to these applications. If you're going to be recruiting, you will have to have some basic knowledge on how to complete the application. So to better explain it, below you will find the application process that will assist you when recruiting and will explain how to help your recruit acquire their steam ID. You will want to get their Steam ID before you start the application process, for conveniences, but is not required.
