The Registration Process

1) Before your recruit can apply to join eGO, they will first need to register an account on the forums. Instruct them to click on the
signup.png
button or click on the Register Account button. (As seen in the picture below)

MOw51Nw.png

2) Either way they will be sent to a "Create Account" page with a button to click that says "Create Account".

VdWc72O.png

3) Instruct them to click on the button and fill out the necessary steps. This first page they will be sent to after clicking on the create account button is their date of birth.

zlYD0gY.png

4) After completing that phase, they will have to read our Rules of Conduct and click on the "Register" button.

5) Once they have agreed, all that is left for them is to make sure their in-game name and forum name match. If they put in the incorrect name, please send them to request a new name here: http://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/profile.php?do=requestusername

This is what the page should look like:

The other information is more for them when setting up their account, however, it is good to be familiar with these steps anyways. Another step here also deals with Time Zones. If they have a question or concern regarding their time zone, you will be able to find the necessary information below.

After you have gotten your recruit to successfully register on the website, the next step is the application process.

The Application Process

Each division has its own separate application based on the games they support, but for the purposes of this class, we will only be going over what is needed on Day of Defeat applications and what you will need to look out for when your recruit is applying.

When sending someone to fill out an application, always send them to this page: http://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/cmps_index.php?pageid=application

You can also tell your recruit to click on the
apply.png
button or "Apply to eGO" on the side bar to apply.

Your applicant will be sent to a page that has information regarding eGO, our Username Policy, and our Server & Forum rules. They will need to read each section before joining eGO, you could even consider it as part of your contract:

After they have read all of the information, they will then need to click on the "Continue" button and then will be sent to click on the "Source" box icon.

Your applicant will then be required to fill in all of the necessary information boxes before the applicant is permitted to joining EdgeGamers.

They will then need to verify their MAUL ID by clicking on the click "here" button. For a step-by-step walkthrough of how to acquire their STEAM/MAUL ID, please scroll down to section 5. After they have their MAUL verified and all of the boxes filled in, they will need to click "Submit" & their application will be posted.

The recruiter should make sure that their recruit is not in violation of eGO's Rules of Conduct and any of the following rules that are allowed on our servers as a non-member, but are NOT allowed on the forums as a member.

1. In-Game Name (Required)

• This part of the application is the one with the most rules so be thorough!
• In-Game: The name displayed in the players list whilst in game. (not in steam or xfire)

• In-Game and Forum Name MUST match exactly
• Many In-game names that are gray for public players may not be appropriate for our members
- Capitalization does not matter

• Forum and In-Game Names MAY NOT

Contain characters which are not on a “Standard U.S. keyboard”
- ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) are standard characters that are allowed (look at keyboard)
- ALT codes are not allowed!
• ?, ?, €, etc

Contain Sexual References/Innuendos
BenDover (Grey Area but still unacceptable)
KarpetMuncher22

Contain Political References
ObamaSux
VoteForFidel

Contain Racist or Sexist Remarks
GookMower
Wifebeater

Contain Drug References
Acceptable: Shawn420
Unacceptable: ShawnTokes420
The Number 420 is ok as long as it’s not paired with a drug reference

Contain excessive repetitive characters or be all numbers (50% letter to number ratio)
Acceptable: Shawn77
Unacceptable: Shawn777777777

Contain excessive L33T speak (Hard to type it in to search? it’s too much!)
Acceptable: L3g3ndz0rs
Use your best judgement if your mom can read it its probably ok.

Contain Clan Tags
In-Game and Forum names may not contain clan tags anywhere in the name.
If they are multi-clan, the other clan tag must be at the rear of the name, with eGO tags at the front in our servers. But not on our applications.

9 characters is the maximum number to accommodate for future tag length.
If the applicant does not wish to confirm they will have to truncate their name in the future. Best to change it now so try to explain to applicant

The name of a potential member may NOT be a name close to any active member of eGO.
Ex: Lt.Nond Lt.Nord, Megs A Tagger, Megs A Gagger, etc.

Search applicant’s name in the members list to be sure!

Speak to Lt.Nond, Stalingrad or HardcoreLegend if you are unsure if a name is acceptable.

In the event we're all unavailable, please contact a member of the PSC for assistance.

2. Real Name (Required)

• First name is ideal answer
• Applicant may place in-game name here if they are not comfortable with giving out this information. (Give them the option)

3. Age (Required)

• This question is required by LAW! eGO is a PG-13 community and thus must follow the US laws established.
• An applicant under the age of 13 can not join on their own. If they are 13 they can join, if they are 12 and under, they will need their parents to sign a COPPA Form. The form will be provided to them by PSC Leadership once they apply.

- The applicant will be placed under leadership review
- They must turn in a COPPA form with a new application to be accepted
- Do not attempt to help them with their application any further.
- The application will be denied or permitted by Leadership.
- COPPA Form http://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/register.php?do=coppaform

4. Division (Required)

• Must answer with only ONE division
• Members may play any game in any division, but must have one division set as their primary
• Double check their application against the “Click here to join eGO” thread!
- Often times applicants will use the incorrect template for their division

5. MAUL/STEAM ID (Required) (VERY IMPORTANT)

One of the most crucial steps is getting the new recruit to enter and validate their Steam ID. After you/them have acquired their Steam ID, you're recruit will have to click on the "here" button to begin their MAUL ID verification process. The page will look like this:

11lR3Vf.png

Your new recruit will then be redirected to this page to acquire their Steam ID. After reading all of the necessary information, make sure your applicant click's on the "HERE" button:

0owsZpd.png

FG4nfsv.png

There are 3 ways to acquire the ID.

• Have the player type "status" in console
• Refer players to the GameME stats to search for their name to find their Steam ID. GameME Link: http://edgegamers.gameme.com/
• Or you can type "status" in console and tell your recruit their Steam ID

Here is the Official eGO video on acquiring your Steam ID featured in the picture above: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogn1xrO5bsQ#t=45[/ame]

Your applicant will either be sent to their MAUL page or be required to sign into MAUL using their eGO forum name and password.

8UPLlc6.png

When the recruit signs into MAUL, they will need to click on the "Edit Game ID's" and fill in the "ID for Source" box with their STEAM ID.

kzOfEOM.png

They will then have the convenient option of signing in through their Steam Account after clicking on the "Sign in through STEAM" button.

tHimzwu.png

4eQtqMt.png

After the applicant has signed into Steam, the will automatically become verified and will need to go back to their MAUL profile to "Save Changes". If they are already signed into Steam they will not need to enter their Steam info, but would still need to save the changes.

It can sometimes take as long as 15 minutes for their ID to be verified, while others are instant. This does depend on the country they are in. Some countries block the IP verification with a proxy or other methods Ex: China. In a case like this you will need to notify a PSC DL to force verify their maul ID. Rare, but it does happen.

When one of your recruits is having trouble becoming verified, take a look through these steps and see if you can rectify the problem.

1) Did they use the same IP for visiting the site vs. playing in the server?

If someone joins from a work or school computer, but plays at home, the IPs are unlikely to match. Have them re-enter the STEAM ID in their MAUL profile from the same computer they use to play online.

2) Is their STEAM ID correct?

Several times people put the wrong STEAM ID in. The first thing to do is check the GameME pages to see if their in-game name and their STEAM ID match. Search for the STEAM ID on the search page - is there a record of them playing on the servers? If so, does the name/steam ID match up? If not, try searching for the in-game name they specified, and see if they maybe got their STEAM ID wrong.

3) Still having trouble?

Some countries, notably in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and sometimes South America, proxy all outgoing connections. Thus, the IP is generally unlikely to match and MAUL verification will fail repeatedly. Any council member or PSC DL can force verification, from the MAUL page of the person. In this case, please post the following in a dropbox post:

- A link to their stats page (showing their name matching their STEAM ID)
- A link to their application thread
- A link to their user profile page (showing the same STEAM ID entered as in steps 1 & 2)

Any council member should be able to do this pretty quickly. Remember that this is a last resort, and you should have everything sorted out and completely clear before contacting a council member.

6. Time Zone (Required)

• EST / CST / PST / MST / GMT / Other - specify (Some people really don’t know their TZ, so general location is acceptable)

The recruit is also allowed to type in a location as well Ex: Moscow, Hong Kong, Sydney, etc. If the recruit does not know their time zone, please refer them to this page and walk them through it. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

Tell them to find their city by either looking on the cities provided or they may type their city in the search bar at the top. Once they found their city, tell them to click on the city and look beside the clock for their time zone. You may also instruct them to click on the "Time Zone" button to find their correct time zone as well.

7. Referral (Optional)

• If left blank assume there is no referrer
• If applicant answers:

- Do not include their clan tags on their application form ex: =(e)= New Recruit (It's no big deal, but technically they aren't an e until they have been accepted into eGO)
- Do not ever suggest or pressure an applicant to add a name here.

The Rule Agreement

• By applying for eGO, the applicant has automatically agreed to the rules (See Click here to join eGO)

The National Service Award

• Applicant must now pm Razor, IceStyle or put in a drop box with clarification.

- Example: I was just accepted into eGO and I am Senior Chief Navy Diver (retired)

Leadership Review

Recruits who do not meet the requirements below will be put under leadership review.

• Under 13
- It’s the law. The applicant MUST provide a COPPA form before they can view our forums and/or join the clan.
- You cannot ask for any corrections in the application post. Leadership will post COPPA info. Application and profile will be closed until we receive the form.
- Knowingly allowing someone to “slide by” will get your PSC membership revoked and may also lead to further disciplinary action, so don't do it.

• Returning Member
- Leadership has to be sure that the member is returning in good standing and has no malicious intent towards the community or it’s servers.

• Active or Previous Questionable Bans
- Leadership will review the situation of the ban(s) on a case by case basis to ensure we are not accepting an applicant who is out to cause trouble.
- Some offenders are looking to create problems in our servers and our forums. This is why it is important that you search their ban and forum history.

• Other suspicions
- If you have a feeling something is wrong, do not hesitate to post. Better safe than sorry. It is easier for us to check now, than to go back and undo everything later on.

Other Information

• Congratulations! You now know the ins and outs of the recruiting, registration, & application process! Make sure to get your recruit active in EdgeGamers! Here's some stuff you can do: Add them on your Steam Friends list, invite them to events, invite them to TeamSpeak 3 to hang out, and show them around the forums (more specifically the DoD:S forums).

• If you're still uncomfortable with recruiting, you can always request another class or you can sign up for our "Under Our Wing" program, that teaches a more hands on approach when recruiting in server. This will consist of one of our recruiting team leaders or experienced recruiting members, who will take you out in the field and show you the ropes of the recruiting process.

• Please make sure to come out to ever recruiting drive you are available and please feel free to contact Lt.Nond, Stalingrad, or HardcoreLegend if you have any concerns or suggestions regarding recruiting, registration or the application process.

• We also are currently in the works of hosting a gigantic Recruiting Contest! Make sure to check back regularly for updates about the contest. Link to Recruiting Contest will be posted here once thread has been established.
