wewo?s quote of the month: "All your base are belong to us." - Leader of CATS from Zero Wing (courtesy of knowyourmeme.com).

PC gaming has come a long way since 1989. I?m sure several of us remember loading Doom onto our PCs through a floppy drive (3.5 inch) using a handful of diskettes. In his CWI article, flamelauncher11 fills you in on the promising new video games (console and PC) expected to be released in November 2014, just in time for the holiday rush.

This month?s Newsletter is the first one to be published without any contribution by Quaffer. Quaffer worked on the first EdgeGamers Newsletter four years ago. After six months he became the Managing Editor, and recently was promoted to Division Leader of the entire Media Team. After 48 contributions to the EdgeGamers Newsletter, Quaffer has resigned his position as Media Team Division Leader for personal reasons. His friendly style of leadership, his skill with the English language, and his wit will be sorely missed by me and the entire Newsletter Team. Quaffer, we salute you and wish you well!

This month's Newsletter was edited by Blaze and whoflungpoo. The subtle, eerie artwork was prepared by Versed. The entire November Newsletter was inspired by Quaffer, our long-time fearless leader. Also, congratulations are in order for Caelestis, the new Media Team Division Leader!

Predator Lark, Advisor to the Day of Defeat Division (DoD) is one of a handful of individuals who keep both the division and community running and on its toes. There's always something to do, most of which is behind the scenes, as he keeps things running smoothly while maintaining the typical EdgeGamers style and reputation we've made for ourselves as a community.

I had the pleasure of speaking to him and outlining his roles, duties, and prospects within EdgeGamers. It was both a fascinating and interesting interview.

Mr_Nicoll: So Lark, what exactly is your role in EdgeGamers?

Predator Lark: My role you ask? Hey, I was put on the spot for this!?! Wait... hold on, I have a role!
I'm an advisor in eGO, I mostly sort out the Contest/Request bans we get on the forums. Actually, I'm also looking into becoming a Demo-reviewer for the DOD division- Which will be interesting.
Erm... Chuck (Chuck Norris), anything else I can think of? Oh yeah, I'm usually on late at night to help out on Teamspeak, you know, with banning/kicking spammers and trolls.

How long have you been a member of EdgeGamers?

Now, lets see... I reckon it's been two years and four months, to be exact.

What divisions have you been part of?

That's the obvious one, you should know! Day of Defeat, and Day of Defeat only! And proud of it!

How many members would you say are part of the DOD division?

Good question actually, we did a roll-call a few months back and we had a listing of over 140 active members- on the forums that is. If you put things in perspective, we could easily be closer to 180-200 mark, considering there's a huge variety of members, in terms of what they use, e.g the Forums, Steam, Teamspeak or just in-game.

Being an Advisor, would you say your role carries great responsibility?

I have to hold myself, and the division to a high standard- It's what I do. I try to hold myself as a figure of authority, as well as having fun and interacting with the community around me. In short, yes, there's lots of responsibility- like that overused adage "with great power, comes great responsibility". The workload however is a tad high, but manageable nonetheless. Lots of reviewing- with most issues being reported to me, and being resolved as such. I enjoy my 'job' as it were, no problems to speak of, or report about.

Are there any future plans for your division?

That'll probably include continuing our variation of events and regular schedules. We've had a slight decrease in the number of events we hold, however they're picking up in popularity and interest- so nothing to worry about. We're also looking, as a division, to welcome the return of a previous event coordinator back to our division, I can't name names, however we're looking to getting him back. As usual, our regular realism is always a massive hit with the community, servers are always populated, which is a massive plus. Because of the increased popularity, we can also look to adding more maps to our awesome, and very interesting rotation server- because of increasing demand and popularity.
We're always looking to make sure people are having fun and enjoying themselves, because that's what we want- again, maintaining the high standards eGO has set for itself over the time it's been established.

What would you like to see in the future for EdgeGamers?

Basically, a continual strategy for every division and individual to work together, tech team keeping up their awesomeness in order to maintain a smooth service, as well as seeing more inter-linking and cooperation between divisions, rather than segregation coming into play. That way we can unify and push for success and popularity- just like the Battlefield 4 lads, they're onto the championships- as a result server rankings are up as well as popularity. Simply continuing eGO's awesomeness!

Now we move onto the more casual, weird, and wonderful aspects of Predator Lark -- something which took me by surprise!

What is your pet peeve?

Our Kalt server.. haha, I'm only joking. Or am I?
In all honesty, I hate it when people eat with their mouths full or open- as I see it, it's like a cow chewing on its Kud. If you didn't notice, I grew up on a farm... I'm a farm person.

Because I'm British: tea or coffee?

Honestly, I don't drink either fortunately. But that said, I like some ice-tea. Oh'er, I say!
I do enjoy an ice-cool glass of Ice-tea, that's all really. So yeah, Tea it is.

And, as a laugh. Because I'm Scottish, have you ever tried Haggis or Irn Bru?

I haven't, I couldn't tell you what 'Iron-Brew' is, is it some sort of weird alcoholic beverage you Scots have? (Mr_Nicoll has to tell Predator Lark how Irn-Bru is spelled).
Well, you see now... the spelling is what throws us Americans off- I don't know what that is, however if its a soft drink (Which it is), I'd like to taste it, and find out.

As most people want to know, have you eaten your customary Mustoreo?

Yes... I've eaten one. It's somewhere in the depths of the forums somewhere. Mustard and Oreo cookies are not a favorite combination, truth be told. I absolutely despise mustard, and have hated it all my life. The mustard definitely overpowered the Oreo, a very disgusting experience to say the least.
I'd do it again if i'm forced to... and offered a subsequent bribe- has to be worth something at least.

National Turkey Month (for us Americans) is finally here and, in addition to the huge Thanksgiving feasts, we are in for quite the treat! That?s right -- this month there is a large selection of brand-spanking-new games hitting the shelves. From a new and improved addition to the well-known and widely played Call of Duty franchise to add-ons and remastered versions of older games.

To kick the list off, Sledgehammer Games has teamed up with Activision once again to bring a new Call of Duty game to the constantly expanding series. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare focuses on futuristic warfare using advanced technology such as pilot-less helicopters controlled by nothing more than a small tablet. As with all other CoD games, Advanced Warfare will be available on Xbox and PlayStation consoles (as well as PC) starting November 3rd.

Next on the list of highly-anticipated games is the Halo Master Chief Collection. This is an Xbox One exclusive that brings all Halo games from Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo 4 in an all-in-one, remastered collection for everyone from casual gamers to die-hard Halo fans alike. Expect this? er? these games to hit the shelves November 14th.

Speaking of great franchises, Assassin?s Creed is introducing two more games to their series: Unity and Rogue. Unity will be available on next-gen consoles and PC while Rogue will only be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Grab these new titles on November 11th!

Finally, Ubisoft is at it again with the Far Cry series, introducing Far Cry 4. On November 18th, Far Cry 4 will be available for last-gen and next-gen consoles as well as PC. Pre-order the game to get player's access to the Hurk?s Redemption DLC, composed of three new missions and a new weapon, for free.

There are too many releases to cover in one article, which is why I brought you the most highly-anticipated releases for this month. But with GTA V for the Xbox One and PS4 hitting shelves this month as well as a new add-on for World of Warcraft, there will be too much to play to even think about lists, which leads us to this: what games are you going to add to your Steam library this month?

PSC is everywhere, OK? EVERYWHERE.

Everywhere you look, everywhere you game, everywhere you respawn there is always a Personnel Service Center executive staring at you from a corner, eyes ablaze, as if to say, “We are everywhere. We are legion.”.

OK that “legion” reference was ridiculous. Sorry.

The PSC team works in mysterious ways. Why exactly would they need to have more than 50 operatives distributed within each division?

To answer that we asked loud and clear, "Why, bro, why are you so many in a specialty division such as PSC? Because it’s a fact that you guys are a big budget consuming bunch."

Our friends up there answered plainly, "It’s all about the members, man. A community means nothing if there is no one to be at it and we take care of each one of you, guys."

Simple answers are, sometimes… mind blowing! *mind blows*

Recruiting, welcoming, training, getting newcomers to learn the ropes, to know their way around this 60,000-strong family. That takes time and effort relentlessly invested because being nice and playing fair is not enough. You need representatives and I’m sure EdgeGamers is not planning to hire a call center overseas.

Leaders like DeadTom and Razor who joined EdgeGamers over six years ago, Advisors such as CCCPofAmerica, imak, ikillyou, and (pause here) the newest Advisor IceStyle (Congrats bro, well deserved.); working day and night along with their trainers and recruiters, operatives, representatives in each division, admission specialists, and that guy whosnamewasit that tells awesome jokes.

That’s PSC, son.

The New Member Experience, or NME, (Yes, I said it and I’ll say it again. Ironically it sounds exactly like “Enemy”) is working out marvelously.

Joining EdgeGamers is now an easier process thanks to the constant assistance and nursing from the PSC guys and gals. Let's be honest, when you are a little shy or reticent, a bunch of dudes welcoming you warmly and making you feel like home really, really, REALLY helps.

For starters feeling welcomed is part of the drill. Also, where exactly do I go to request my unbanning with the promise to never GUI (Gaming Under the Influence) again? PSC is the place to go to ask for help.

So next time you want to ask the PSC, "Hey PSC! What's the deal, man? Why are there so many members on your roster?", go back to the Community Members link and check how many registered gamers we have today and how many of them need services that are not provided through a phone call with a guy who states that he is from Jefferson City but clearly isn't.

Read ya’ later,

Sigma

Battlefield Juggernaut with DICE and EA

One of the biggest community events of the year is happening in the Battlefield Division: The Battlefield Juggernaut with DICE and EA. This event, taking place on Sunday, November 2nd, is an amazing collaboration between EdgeGamers, EA and DICE to give members the chance to hang out with DICE developers and get a first look at an exclusive, Juggernaut-themed event as they test their survival skills on Battlefield 4. Attendees will also have the chance to interact with DICE developers and win some fantastic prizes.

The event takes place on the EdgeGamers TeamSpeak 3 Server and the Battlefield servers. Participants should join the Battlefield 4 channel in the Battlefield Division on TeamSpeak 3 before the event begins. If you have any other questions or concerns about the event, be sure to ask a leadership member or read and post in the forum thread for the event.

Other Battlefield News

There has been a lot happening in the BF Division in recent months and it's all a reflection of the hard work of leadership and all members alike over the past year or more. Dedication to EdgeGamers and dedication to the servers have helped the division grow. Without each and every member, these events would not be taking place today. If you have missed other recent events in Battlefield, keep an eye on the forums and the Front Page News for more coming up.

In addition to this, Battlefield had a Halloween party on October 30th and 31st, there were new promotions and awards, and a Battlefield Premier League has been launched for competitive play.

You can find information about teams, schedules, rules, maps and more. It?s not too late to add new players (at the time of this publication). Rosters will remain unlocked until the fifth week of the season; at that time, rosters will be locked and no more additions will be possible unless granted on a per-case basis by league admins.

If you have any questions about the Battlefield Premier League, please speak to Battlefield leadership.

This is a very special time for Battlefield Division and its members, as well as for EdgeGamers as a whole. You are reaping the rewards of hard work and dedication - fun, clean servers to play on. You are setting an example that other divisions and communities can follow and you are representing EdgeGamers well. Thanks for making us all proud!

The bullets whizzed past the Allied soldier as he continued his sprint up the hill, searching for a tree to hide behind along the dotted landscape. He glanced behind him to yell orders to his squad to continue on and complete the objective. As he looked to his left, he watched a comrade fall from sniper fire, yet he knew he had to keep following orders and take the hill.

Finally, he reached the crest of the hill. Though half of his squad had fallen, he rejoiced in the small victory. As the firing seemingly stopped, he stood up to figure out his next orders. He looked among the blown out buildings for the rendezvous point only to find himself face-to-face with an enemy rifleman. Before he could even plead for his life, a flash rang out. The soldier collapsed, his life force quickly dissipated. Thankfully, he'd only have to wait for the next round to play again.

The intensity of real world battles are relived every Saturday night by the Day of Defeat division as they cast aside the traditional rules of DOD for their Realism Event, a modified version that focuses more on strategy and precision shooting instead of the typical run-and-gun matches that are found in the public servers.

Teams are picked during the event by the Commanding Officers who are also in charge of assigning special weapon classes and creating unique strategies for each round. To raise the stakes, one side is given time to set up a defense while the other side is given the goal of attacking and killing each member of the other team to win the round.

The rules of Realism tend to reward patience and accuracy, and often the result is hair-raising rounds whose intensity can't be found in normal DOD matches.

Come join the DOD division every Saturday in TeamSpeak 3 shortly before 8:00 pm ET and see what you have been missing.

Thank you for your kindness wewo. I find joy in knowing that all of media continues to provide a service of such high caliber for EdgeGamers.

So, new CoD, remastered Halo, and 2 new Assassin Creed games?

Big whoop. Who's up for some CS:S?

(Still was a very good newsletter. I just wish some of the indie developers got more attention.)

The December Newsletter will include a CS article, and I expect that the Clan-Wide interest article in December will relate, at least in part, to CS:Go. Please remember that CS is one of several Divisions in eGO. The Newsletter Team strives to treat all Divisions equally.

Thanks for the suggestion about Indie developers, we will keep that in mind for future articles.
