Tech Help need some wifi stability help

So I'm not sure if I need a new router, or if it's just in need of a better provider. Mainly I'm asking what you tech-heads reccomend to increase stability/reliability. Here is how bad it is: I crash my router playing on the ttt server. So, any tips or ideas to fix it? I'm running the basic router that came with xfinity.

What's your wifi router? That would be a good place for us to start. And if it's provided by the cable company, you can still provide a model.

There is a lot of things that can interfere with a wifi signal and the only true way to avoid that and maintain a stable connection is via a shielded cat 5/6/7 cable, connected directly to your computer from your modem/router.

As far as for your wifi-router, it can be broken, it can also need some firmware updates and or a correctly set firewall.

Since I'm not sure what you mean by "router crashes"; All of the above are possibilities, whatever the model is.

Snipeye is correct to ask for the brand/model since further searches could dig up some posts/sites about others encountering similar issues that could lead to suggestions on how to help solve the issue at hand.

Ok so it just turns its self off, why? Idk, but I also have a netgear thing next to it(forget what it's called), and that one never shuts down on me, just the standard router goes, " you know what, your doing to good, so I'm just gonna go *off*" and I quote my router telling me this. Do I need to suck more at GMOD to please it? Because when ever I suck, it stays.

I suggest you try to see if there is a new firmware update for your router and update it. If not, I can only assume it's hardware failure Router itself or its Powersupply.

When you say "turns it self off" is it just the Wifi that turns off or is it the whole router that loses power? If so, does it turn it self back on again?

By turns off I mean that it literally, Turns Off, but it does restart itself, most of the time. There was this one time though. I'll definantly give them a call when I get home though.

Let me ask you a question that hasn't been asked yet..

How old is your router?? Routers and modems can have a tendency to crap out after a few years and they can do a variety of different things such as burn out, turn off completely, or do what you're describing.

Also, do you by chance know the firmware version of your router? If you do, you can check the manufacturers website to see if there are any firmware updates. I would do that first, and closely read the instructions. If it doesn't fix the problem, I would consider the first one. Especially if it just started doing it randomly.

There's a variety of different things it could be.

If your "router" looks like this get rid of it and buy a supported modem and router.
