Somewhere along the way, our gaming addictions were formed. They may have started from watching your father play Wing Commander or from throwing your SNES for getting killed too much in Super Star Wars. Wherever it may have begun, do not be afraid to share where your childhood was corrupted by the taint of gaming.
My personal (and most profound) memories came from the days of sitting on my father's lap and playing the RPG/strategy hybrid Jagged Alliance 2 with him. I was only 4-5 years old and was assisting my dad with clearing out a sector filled with hostiles. My mother was out of the house so my dad decided to turn on blood and gore just for the lol's.
Here I was in my innocent young mind; listening to witty comments made by the mercenaries on the squad when it happened. In pure 2-D, isometric glory, I watched as my father's character shot an AK-47 at an opponent's head. In a flash, the sprite was turned from a head into a fountain of blood, gushing up from the neck. A large pool of blood was formed in pure 1999 fashion. I was shocked, even immobilized by the detail of the death. The words that followed in-game created my (in)famous sick sense of humor:
"Jeez. That blew my mind. Heh, guess that makes two of us."
