Best VPN/Proxy services?

I'm looking at getting a VPN/Proxy set up for myself and wanted to know what other members thought were the best companies to use.

Well, for a client-side software application I'd use Private Internet Access.

However, I would recommend OpenVPN even moreso, however it is more complex and requires port fowarding and other various tasks. You have the option of a routed vs bridged VPN.

I prefer OpenVPN because, well, for one reason it's free, and secondly because you can configure the software directly onto your Router through your router configuration settings. In my opinion it is much more secure as long as you know what you're doing and how to set it up.

Keep in mind, a proxy is only good for web-browsing and is becoming easier to backtrace more and more now adays. As soon as you leave your browser, your proxy is no longer covering your activity. Not only that, but proxies are much slower than a VPN. A VPN however, will encrypt your information as long as the software is running and you're connected to the internet, and is much faster than a proxy.

With most of these VPN services, your information(for the most part) is completely safe unless court ordered, which is why you definitely don't want to do anything illegal or malicious with any of these client-side VPN's.

I use one called VPN unlimited it was like $20 for 3 yrs. Only gripe i have is that i have to disable it for league of legends...

PIA uses OpenVPN. PIA can't do anything if a court orders them to release information because they don't log activity to specific accounts/IPs. So actually yes, you would get PIA to do something illegal.

Good to know, I was going off of their Privacy Policy. I wasn't aware they use OpenVPN.

I personally haven't used PIA, but I've heard by others how good it is, so it's always my first to recommend to people looking for a VPN.

The only thing I've done with a VPN is use OpenVPN in class, so that's the only VPN experience I have, personally. Everyone has their reasons for using them, but I don't see the sense in one unless I'm on a public WiFI network up at Mcdonalds or something, which I never do.

Thanks for all the info. I'm leaning towards PIA since it seems to be what a lot of people like from what I've discovered. I don't have an issue paying so price isn't really an issue for me.

Side question has anyone used ExpressVPN? I heard they were good but rather pricey.

Just curious to see if anyone had used them and if there was any major differences between the 2.
