Let me introduce myself. My name is Darth and I'm a 19 year old kid from the United Kingdom. I joined EdgeGamers on the 19th of August, 2008. I was 13 years old.

The thing about me is that I like being in charge. I like running things, I like management and people coming to me with any problems. I started off as an admin for Xenon in an old sourceforts community. It was going great until my brothers came and ruined it for me, I was no longer an admin and I was devastated. A few months later I was playing on TF2's badlands_arena when a message pops up saying that "EdgeGamers" was recruiting admins. Great, I quickly went to the website and joined and awaited my free admin, at last I could be an admin again.

My application post has gone now  (as well as my anniversary blog posts) but in it I originally said I was 23, I wanted people to respect me and those were the days that you didn't give any personal information on the internet. After realising I would need to wait and earn my admin I did just that, quickly being promoted to an eG. I felt that I integrated well within the community. I was extremely active on the forums and I made a lot of friends, I found my home.

I used to live away from my family and only had a crap pc which couldn't play games which I was I was so active on the forums, namely the shoutbox. Because of this, that was my go-to-place to interact with my friends and have some fun because I was unable to do this in a game. I became obsessed with the shoutbox and would be there all hours of the day, I quickly became noticed for this and had a few thousand posts in it (it used to save all shouts). Some of the leaders felt I was just a little spamming kid and decided to ban me from the ShoutBox and website. I am actually very proud of this fact, I'm the only member ever to have been banned from the ShoutBox (several times). This wrecked me, I was right down to the bottom, everything I had worked for gone because of a little box.

The months went on and on for me as an e, I worked extremely hard in the hopes of being promoted again and trusted, the day finally came when I was promoted and I was happy beyond belief.

From the end of '09 to 2012 I was a very active member, I made graphics and videos for the community and during this time I was apart of pretty much every team in eGO, the PSC, Media Team, News Team, Admin Trainers, Event Coordinators. I felt great to be able to help and be trusted with this responsibility. I became way too connected with the community where it became a dependence for me. Once again I made a mistake. I became too involved (emotionally attached, I was literally having dreams about the community (and the shoutbox)) with eGO and very excited when it was the eGO birthday promotions and started speaking to a member of leadership when they were getting promoted. I was asked to step down and focus on one team rather than stretch myself too far. I was back to square one again. I would actually cry every time I got in trouble. I realise now how stupid this was but as I have said, I became too emotionally attached and this did become my second life.

I am a person who likes working very hard and I have a weakness on taking on too much responsibility (even now at university I am helping organise 2 conferences, work as a mentor and ambassador for many events). This period was a high for me and I finally got promoted to O, a day which I thought would never come. Every time I got an award I was super excited, my contributions were being recognised and there are some awards which I am still very proud of for receiving, particularly the ones in which I received a medal which only leadership had at the time.

I did have many lows but I strived on, I got back up and I continued to work hard, determined to move on and make a contribution to the community.

I have met many good people in my time here, many of who are not here any more and I wish them all the best of luck with whatever they do.

My one goal has always been to become a member of leadership. It makes me feel special when I'm in a position of leadership. Most my determination was to one day reach this but I never managed it. I do not regret anything though. I learnt a lot of skills during my time here and those skills (particularly with Photoshop) have been of great benefit to me in the real world. Without joining I probably would never have taught myself graphic design or done video editing.

Recently I have not been very active (for the last 2 years now almost). I am at university in my second year studying dentistry and I really do not have much free time at all any more, any free time is me trying to stay sane from the ridiculous amount of work which I have to do. I can't even remember the last time I played a game or did anything care-free.

I have always said that I will never leave eGO this is why this post is not a leaving post. I am not leaving by any means however I have been very inactive lately and I know this won't change. I didn't want to fade out like any other member. I feel as if I have made contributions to the community and I believe I deserve to make this post. I wanted to make a final post while some members might still know who I am. I needed closure, this is what this post it, closure for my time with the community.

EdgeGamers, it has been a long 6 years, this community has shaped the person who I am today and I am very happy with where I am in my life. I have had ups and downs but I am leaving on a positive note. I will still visit the forums regularly, out of habit since I did it every day for many years and you may see me time to time in the ShoutBox.

Thank you, this will probably be my last official anniversary post as an active member.

Well, that was quite a post. I have only played on eGO servers for about 2 and a half years now and have always had an emotional attachment to both the servers and the community. I never have really gotten to know you very well and we've only had a few conversations in the Shoutbox, but I can tell you are a very good person and can say that I am very grateful for all the help you have made to our community.

Thank you for your contributions, Darth. Best of luck in University and real life. :)

Darth, you are like me in every way. I love getting awards, and I do a lot of extra activities in eGO.

I also noticed, you said you never managed to reach Leadership, but then you have the Leadership award?

I'm confused /.\ anyways.
Cheers!

Who do you name the king of the shoutbox, lord darth (vader)

Im going to miss you drath. And no i diddnt misspell his name, that is one of my favorite eGO memories. The shoutbox has suffered a great loss, who do you name the new king of the box? Hope your studies go well, and hope that when it is finished, you will be able to come back to us. Until then good luck, and remember our first meeting: tea speak.

It will always be the Darthbox. Also, you look way different than the last time I saw you O.o

I said it before, I'll say it again: I'll miss your voice on the forums. If you ever feel like talking, hit me up on Steam anytime.

Oh Darth, there are no words. I hope you see the impact and greatness you brought to this clan. And you did it without ever needing a leadership rank. In many ways you've embodied what I've always said about every member being invaluable regardless of their rank.

You have my everlasting appreciation and gratitude. Don't be a stranger! :)

DARTH! I am rarely ever around either, but I remember you from back in the beginning! haha

Darth, it is crazy the impact and the influence you have put onto this community without needing the fabled title that is leadership. Always been a pleasure reading your anniversary posts and I wish you the best of luck in your real life and hopefully I see you around sometime

Good Luck Darth... I too have had real life swallow up my eGO time.
So, I know how you feel. I don't normally post on the "Goodbye" posts.. but for you I'll make the exception.

I think you've been an excellent member over the years and the community will be losing a great member. It's pretty easy to tell who gives alot of time and thought to eGO. And you sir gave alot of yourself. But real life needs to come before gaming (always). I always enjoyed your graphics, shouts and posts.. Good luck on the career in dentistry.
You can always lurk... like I do.. whenever you have time. ;)

That post was very interesting to read, you have made a great impact on this community and you have helped shape it up! Hope everything goes well in with your schoolwork! Thanks for all that you have done!

I enjoyed reading that :)

You aren't the only member who floats in and out, only being semi-active to not active at all. But you did indeed have a "great bang" in the beginning and I am sure even if you only pop in once in a great while, people will still remember and still smile when they see you post!

It'll mean you're still alive and thinking of eGO when life gives you time. :)

Thank you all for your kind comments. It has been a crazy ride but your posts summarise what eGO is all about - the community spirit! This is something I wish never goes away, especially for those younger members who are just like me.

Remember, eGO members will always have free dental care with Darth, you just have to cover transport costs! (It'll probably still be cheaper than in America and you get a holiday!)

Darth bro I'm gonna miss ya. I joined up 2 months after you and I don't think any old timers will ever forget the Darthbox. Miss ya dude hope to see you around online from time to time. Wish you the best brother.
