Regardless. G.Skill is best known as being a "gamer" oriented company just by their looks and popularity. Budget/mainstream doesnt fit into his best bang for the buck category.
 
Two of you should sit down in vent to continue your conversations on there. The G.Skill is honestly fine. Every memory manufacturer has their own "Gamer" series at a premium rate, but still maintain their budget and mainstream offerings. It's how that industry competes. Next time, look at ALL the models and prices they offer. You may be forgetting that the listed RAM is a higher-speed RAM so it's not the DDR3 1600 but DDR3 2400; you have to consider that in the price evaluation.

Edit: Quick search on newegg shows the RAM prices for DDR 2400 for 2x8GB sticks range from $150 to $280 with the Corsair Dominator series sitting at the top, and Team Xtreme at the lower price. The G.Skill RAM listed is sitting in the most common price range between $165-180, shared with ADATA, Patriot, Corsair Vengeance, and Mushkin. The only other brand offering for this RAM type is HyperX that sits around the $200 range. Cloaked, you were wrong on the price argument for this RAM type.

That's what I'm saying though. I'm just trying to dissuade Dragon from being afflicted by opinions based on brand favoritism. Why tell me to go into Ventrilo if you agree with me and are making similar points?

Anyway, you may or may not notice barely anything by going to 2400 from 1600. This thread has some good information.

I really like this motherboard. Everything went together smoothly and reaches post fast. Very fast.

Windows 7 craters though. I think it may be to much "change" at once.

If you are changing the motherboard you should do a clean install (delete all partitions)
 
na, i got it to work. I don't want to (at this time) do so.

Next week or so, I'll pick up one of those spiffy SSD drives, THEN do a fresh install.
 
Sometimes I do not get you sushi. I not once said G.skills is a bad company or has bad RAM. I said they are like Alienware. Meaning you are paying more for a flashy look than higher quality performance. Thats all I was saying. Please dont paint me in some bad picture as playing "brand favoritism." Its very rude.
 
I know the O.P. already made their purchase, but I thought I'd mention that MicroCenter has some really good deals on in-store pickup only items, including the i5-4690K ($179.99 and the i7-4790K ($249.99 i7-4790K.

Limit 1 per household. I don't have one nearby but I have a friend that is going to pick me up the i5 today and a Z97 Mobo that is an additional $40 off (combo deal, in-store only)

Let the Black Friday fun begin.

The motherboard is a tough decision for us to make. We dont know what you really do with your PC. Do you plan to overclock? Future SLI plans? Do you plan to pair drives in a RAID configuration? What size is your case?

Memory is pretty standard. If you're looking for fast and an excellent choice in memory I would recommend mushkin.

All around just a great company. You wont see much savings in this department as most memory prices are the same. Go cheap on memory and cheap is what you get.

The heatsink is purely up to personal opinion. I personally do not think you will ever need an aftermarket heatsink for your CPU so long as you dont plan to overclock. But if you do I would recommend a noctua branded cooler. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608041
