Today, I had a unique chance to shadow a unique individual, an officer of the law.
Throughout most of the day I rode along with him patrolling the city, we talked about his stories of past experiences, police academy, the Civil Service Exam and I asked him many questions. He was a really intelligent guy, and real down to Earth too.
The only time we saw any action was when we had a noise complaint come in.
We were quickly en route to the apartment complex, and I went in with the officer.
Inside, on the 7th or so floor, there was an old man, named Dennis, who was 73 or 74. He had a complaint about his next door neighbor's music being too loud.
If you don't know, the only way this could be a violation of law is if the music can be heard outside of a 25 foot radius. So the officer just asked for his full name and a few personal things so he could speak to the landlord about the man next door.
The officer knocked on the room next door, and spoke to the man with the loud music.
He was an older fellow too, he was a little off his rockers, but that's okay.
We asked him to politely turn down the music and to keep it at a certain level from now on.
The man cooperated accordingly, so we left. He filed the situation on his computer, and we were off. We got gas, and then came back to the station, he showed me how to file more work including with an SD Card.
Then it was time for the bus to pick up the other 2 kids in my class that went with different officers and pick up the last girl who was at the Hospital shadowing a nurse.
All in all, it was a great experience and look forward to becoming a police officer when I am older.
