Case fan help

Theres a 20% disc for the Xigmatek, which makes both of them the same price. Which set do you guys think I should go after? I need this pack for my new case (have openings in the top for 2 & space for 1 in the front).

120mm fans are very small IMO. Are you sure the top of your case takes 2 120mm fans in the top? That seems odd since the fan on the top of my case (mid-atx) takes a 200mm fan and that doesnt even fill its entire space. It'll probably need a 240mm fan.

But if you must go with one or the other I would choose cooler master.

Well heres the thing, it can take either 2x120mm fans or 1x200mm fan. However, ive noticed that in my current case that the top fan (which happens to be a 200mm fan), makes a whining noise at times, which becomes very annoying. The problem with the current case is that the wiring is fixed so that you would have to remove the motherboard & possibly more just to get it removed, which in that case would become a massive hassle. Thats why I upgraded my case to the HAF 912. Very customizable & I can set the wire wherever I need it. Not to mention the fact that with my new motherboard it has really convenient places for the case fans.

So overall, I really dont wanna have to deal w/ another huge 200mm fan like my current case.

120mm fans give you a more, diverse option with your case, you can either have one or two 120mm fans. There's nothing wrong with 120mm fans. Coolermaster and Corsair sell some good fans.

A little bit pricy compared to the one you were looking at, but none of the less extremely quiet and reliable fans

I actually havea xigmatek fan 240mm one on the top side of my case. I got it for free. If i didnt get it for free i would have gone with a name brand fan but in the several years i have had the fan there has been 0 issues.

I have the HAF 912. You wont get rid of the fan whining with cheap fans like that, sadly. Bearings will wear quick on those.

If you want silent fans then I recommend Noctua. I have heard nothing but great things about them. I think they are also the producers of the quietest fans on the market. But they dont come at a cheap price.

The 120mm fan idea is very appealing but it really is not practical for the 912. I had 1 120mm fan on the top of my case and the problem is that they would spin at max RPM with any load. (It was those cheapo cooler masters.) They lasted forever but it did whine just like every other fan will do at max RPM. 120mm fans are very impractical imo for this case. After 4+ years on the same case, I suggest you go with 1 200mm fan or get a Noctua branded fan.

The reason your 200mm fan whines could just be bad bearings. Your fan went bad. Its not the fact that its a 200mm fan that makes it whine. http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/case-fan/megaflow-200-red-led-silent-fan/ This is the fan I am using and it works great.
