Yeah, I understand, I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't an actual hardware issue too, which would mean the problems would still persist even after the reformat. Although if he has multiple viruses, the reformat is still probably the right decision.

I occasionally reformat even when nothing is going wrong, simply because windows just fails at longevity.

okay i cannot reformat my hard drive so im posting the error codes that were on my screen and what it said...

0x0000008E (0xc0000010, 0xe53a0850, 0xa5d2188c,0x00000000)

I dont remember the words exactly but it said something about my videodriver or harddrive...

Lots of possible causes, and it likely seems hard drive related.

Try all the fixes on that page, and if that doesn't help then it could either be a windows problem, or your hardware might have died.

yeah I usually reformat every 6 mo or so. I don't have many games installed and I have a backup hard drive with all my stuff, so it doesn't take long for me to reformat anyway. I think downloading all the updates takes longer!
