I saw at least one lens flare...which doesn't bode well.

Lens flare is Abrams' signature though. Like, when he signs a paper that paper gets all shiny and sears your eyes.
I admit even without the fancy production polishing or full special effects and cinematic touch-ups in place, I'm pretty stoked.
My friends and I came up with a theory: The first line is Benedict Cumberbatch's voice; the second line is Adam Driver's voice (note the change in pitch/tone and accent -- go look at any interview with Driver speaking), indicating two different people with seemingly dark intentions. The theory is that Cumberbatch is playing a new Darth and Driver is the apprentice, pictured in the trailer as the man in black robes utilizing a seemingly unstable lightsaber crystal -- ergo the wavering, incomplete saber blade.

I know I might be a tad nitpicky, but seriously? A lightsaber with a hilt that gives it the shape of a cross? And to boot, while not a horrible idea, I can't imagine that making it nearly as easy to wield in comparison to a normal lightsaber... One little flourish and suddenly you've Skywalkered your own freaking hand!
I admit this and Jurassic World have me excited, but there are all these little things about them that I'm kind of facepalming and saying something like "oh dear god no...". It was the above to a lesser extent for SWVII, and in JW it was the "genetically modified" dinosaur.
Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my older age...

He did promise to cut down though, apparently his daughter complained about them in Star Trek into Darkness.

My thoughts exactly. Im a huge Starwars fan and loved the trailer... but... That sith's lightsaber With the side hilts was retarded. Still excited!!

For those of you who are not as much of a Star Wars nerd as myself, let me clear up some confusion on the cross-guard lightsaber. The design was originally created by Roblio Dart? and the cross-guard feature acts as a hand guard against an enemy slicing down your saber into your hand. Yeah, what was shown doesn't really support the hand guard theory that much, or does it?
In the Star Wars universe, there are rare materials that are actually known to be lightsaber resistant. The big one is Cortosis which has been shown prevent, and even temporarily short out other lightsabers upon contacting. Beskar, a Mandalorian metal, is another big metal that has been shown to be useful enough to even forge it into a sword that can compete with lightsabers in duels without being broken. So maybe someone over there did their homework!

Not stoked. Tbh, more pissed than anything. Not sure if I can see Star Wars the same with the entire Expanded Universe being scrapped. Having the "franchise" without characters such as Kyle Katarn, Admiral Thrawn, Darth Revan, and especially Anton Rand just feels wrong.

I agree, it kind of sucks. The expanded universe is where star wars actually starts to get interesting. Especially the Darth Bane trilogy which is kind of the start of the modern Sith (well modern as in the sith in the movies).
Not an R2 unit :facewall:. Some new astro droid their are going to introduce maybe as R10 or something.
