These tutorial videos are a lot less "basic" than you may think. Sure, they cover what the class does and where they excel, but they give a lot of strategies that inexperienced players who decide they want to learn one of these classes would have a hard time figuring out on their own and likely would not use.

ive seen all of these videos, i love watching how-to tf2 videos and tournament videos, these are all great vids :D

On scout:
-Environmental awareness is huge; the map is your playground. Know where all medkits and all alternative routes are. Mind games are as strong a weapon for scout as they are for spy.
-Scouts are good for group dispersal and distraction. Every second you cause your enemy to waste trying to kill you is a second gained for your team to setup a defense.
-In a one on one ranged sentry/engie combination for any level sentry (ctf_well flag room is good for practice), go for the engie's dispenser or the engie himself first unless you're certain you can take out the sentry. Once you've cut off the engie's supply, taking out his sentry at any level is trivial. Using pistol is a no-brainer, of course.
-If you're close enough, you don't need to circle strafe around a level 1 sentry to destroy it.
-Know when to run away.

Like all classes, knowing what to do is a matter of experience. It's nice to know what to do on a per-class, one on one basis. A good scout, however, would be able to formulate a means of survival based on the sum of all of the weaknesses and strengths of every opponent he or she facing; group vs. you battles play out very differently than duels.

There's probably more to say, but a lot of what I've come to learn is from experience. I've never really thought about putting it into words.

Wow. I just hope to never see Daedalus on a server. That guy's got skills.

Thanks for the post, though. Scout, Pyro, and definitely Spy are my three weakest classes, probably so I've been trying to play them more to get better.

Man that's some pro double jumping. I like how he keeps jumping through windows and circle around B while picking up health pack nonstop and jumping on top of peopel from unexpected angles.

However the scout is fairly useless when there are sentry guns around. Gravel is the best map for them as there are a lot of places they can jump around to. And a red scout can pretty much roam the map freely without worrying about sentry guns.

Pyros spies and scouts are the 3 ambush classes(not counting sneaky rocket, sticky jumping soliders and demos). However, the scout requires a lot more aiming and movement skills than the other 2. And the Pyro requires the least and is the worst at ambushing but has by far the most firepower.

The scout and spy are better lone wolves than the the pyro. And it's very important to know ur target priority when playing these classes. Killing a medic with full or near full uber is the most satisfying feeling in the world and can win ur team the game.

Booster's got a point, ln(e) is one of the best players I've ever seen, but EvilDaedalus is still very good.

Saying that the pyro is the worst ambush class is being awfully single-minded. If you've seen the video, the section where he briefly describes "blazing" (he made up that term but it's okay) basically describes what a pyro should be doing all the time. When it comes to attacking just one enemy, spies and scouts are better, but pyro can't be beat for dealing with groups of enemies. The spy can manage if the enemies are really not paying close attention and in a tight group, but he can't defend himself in open combat in case he's discovered. If the scout gets behind that many enemies, they'll figure out where he is based on the given firing pattern (unless he only uses the bat but that'll take too long and he'll be found out anyway). Because enemies take flame damage even when a pyro isn't firing on them, he can be surprisingly hard to find if he moves a bit.

Actually I'm a better pyro(see my hlx stats and steam stats for reference) than this Daedalus guy in the video so I know what I'm talking about. What I was saying is that the pyro's the worst at getting behind enemy lines for obvious reasons but they can do a lot of damage once they do.

And I don't agree with him about what he said about setting people on fire without finishing them off. There are situations where you wanna kill 1 guy at a time without letting their whole team notice you so you don't get gang banged by their whole team. And If there are multiple medics with ubers or near full ubers ready to assault ur cp you have to sacrafice yourself and kill the medics. Also when there are medics, dispensers or med kits around you won't kill anyone by just setting them all on fire.

Working with your team also makes the pyro a lot more effective. I'm sure everyone already knows how scary an ubered pyro is. The pyro is also good at inflicting heavy damage to large group of enemies but die pretty easily themselves. So you need ur team to help you finish them off.

Yep technician makes a good point, actually several. Sometimes at least when I play pyro is that I think I'm doing more damage than I am so just keeping them on fire doesn't really help, especially if health is readily available, sure doing some damage and eating away at them is nice...but all you've been is a minor inconvenience rather than a destructive force.
It's pretty much knowing hwo to not take as much damage by strafing, etc. at least from what I have noticed in order to get behind enemy lines or just to get people who are not quite in your range for the flamethrower.
And endiment also has some good points about spies and scouts...however with the spy...if you know how to backstab, with a close knit group of enemies then they are done for, I mean I have seen groups of people who were paying attention most of the time, and it seemed really unlikely that the spy would get bakcstabs, and yet the spy annihialated them because they chained up the backstabs very very nicely. As to the scout, yeah they'll know but if you can run away, and take them down bit by bit you'll be able to do a lot of damage, at least from my experience.
I think it all comes down to knowing your class. I mean if you haven't played it or just aren't that good with a class you aren;t going to pull off some moves the better people can, though then again it may seem very hard you just need to learn it over time if that's what you want to pursue.

I'm not saying that Daedalus' playstyle is one that I use, but it technically works. I'm much more aggressive and don't retreat unless it would be stupid to fight. I'm a better pyro than him as well (and statistically a better pyro than you too, technician), but he's pretty good nonetheless. Personally I think pyro is the best class for uber because he just does so freaking much damage at close range. A short time ago I was a budding pyro and when I stumbled upon this video it gave me a bit of an edge that I needed to push myself into the top 5 on eGO servers (ln(e) is one of four statistically better than I am, the other three being KaptainKangaroo, Frying Scotsman, and Jon2486).

I haven't been playing the pyro much since moving to EGO. But I have the highest kd ratio and the highest (maybe second) kills per min out of everyone playing on ego servers.

We can argue on about who's better, but the fact remains that we're both good players. Daedalus is a good player too.

What's your steamid. So I can add you and anyone know what Daedalu's current id is?

LMAO I just realized that hlx stats is currently down, probably resetted.
