Mustard, everyone. I love mustard. It’s spicy and very aggressive on your palate and yet after the first taste it gives you a sweet burning sensation that sticks around for a while. It is also great to remove blisters caused by fire burn.

Actually, mustard is so sweet and delicious it tastes almost like…chocolate. Yeah.

Nay, they say?!

Well then, someone please explain to me why some of our beloved Leadership members have soaked chocolate and cream cookies (a/k/a Oreos) in mustard, engulfing them with such "pleasure" that they are forced to make funny faces, gross themselves out, and (sometimes) vomit. Isn't this delicacy a true ambrosia?

The Mustoreo (Mustard-Oreo, duh!) challenge has been part of EdgeGamers as long as I can remember. Great Advisors and Division Leaders (current and retired alike) have accepted the task to scarf down this disgusting mixture. This is the path to become a real man or woman, they say. You should try it...no, please don’t. Well if you do, send me the video and we’ll add it to the hall of fame.

It is not certain who created the Mustoreo - some guys at EdgeGamers claim ownership - but Mustoreo videos appear everywhere on the Web. Just Google it. The EdgeGamers Media Team has a series of videos claiming origins; you should totally check them out here.

Years ago when EdgeGamers used Casino Cash (CC) for currency, it was a common tradition to make Mustoreo challenges for CC. You’d think these guys have severe stomach problems, but the truth is most of them were young and relentless back in the day, with bellies made of iron, so a bittersweet snack like this presented no drama. However, some of them puke and go nuts. Judge for yourselves here.

But that list is far from updated! This is a small list of current, active eGO Leaders who have done the challenge. I kid you not, sometimes Mustard and cookies is not enough and they go all hardcore and eat mixtures even more horrible. Some of them are even willing to do it again! That’s real courage.

  • Maserati - Advisor TF2 - [ame="http://youtu.be/GyiuBMve8KQ"]video[/ame] He blames Fullmetal for making him do it. After this they became good friends in RL. Talking about legit reasons to hang out!

Our friend Mr_Nicoll from DoD wanted to share his disgusting video. He's not Leadership, but still had the guts to go all the way. Way to go, soldier!

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvzQjPUs8JA"]video[/ame]

Wholehearted thanks to all the Advisors and Division Leaders who sent me their videos and stories and who agreed to be part of a new Mustoreo Leadership Challenge, something that hopefully will be real someday.

Read ya' later.

The Personnel Service Center, or PSC for short, is one of those divisions you wouldn’t normally bat an eyelid at, or consider having much influence in eGO. Well, you’d be wrong. For a start, at least once in your eGO “career”, you’ve likely had some happy chappie from the PSC process your application, welcome you, and - most importantly - set you on the right path, offering any advice possible.
I had the lovely chance to have a chat with CCCPofAmerica and IceStyle, both Advisors to the PSC Division, which proved to be somewhat benefiting to my understanding, and overall perception of what this often unheard-of division goes through on a daily basis.
First off, let us have a look at their overall views on the Division itself:

IceStyle sees the PSC as a somewhat quiet, blissful, and peaceful environment; the Front Desk of eGO. A helping block to get people settled in.
After many PSC invasions he was proud that the PSC had an event of its own, something in PSC's own style.

CCCPofAmerica:

CCCP portrays the PSC as the front door, welcoming new members and easing them into eGO.

The PSC division is often misunderstood and their ways seem a mystery to us.
However, things are rolling on and changing for the better… PSC has grasped the metaphorical bull that is eGO by the horns, and is now advancing to bring in new, exciting and extravagant members into the community… as if we weren’t already awesomely diverse enough!

The “New Member Experience” or NME for short (actually, whilst I’m here, is it just me, or does eGO love abbreviating things?) is the new program recently initiated to help recruit new members, and provide mentors to help integrate new members who, like any of you at the very beginning, were unfamiliar with how to operate the forums, website, games and TeamSpeak…admit it, we were all noobs at one point. The NME is designed to de-noobify new members and integrate them into eGO seamlessly.

Essentially it works like this: somebody joins on the forums. When they join up, they receive a PM asking if they’d like to participate in the new, exciting, and helpful program being offered to them. If so, a member who has been chosen to help them will guide them and show them the ropes of being a committed, helpful, and downright awesome member of eGO. There’s a sense of friendship established from this simple program, creating common ground between what would be two unfamiliar members into two friends who can play together in their favorite game(s) - as well as helping them on how to use and negotiate the systems we use, like TeamSpeak and Steam, and introducing them to other members…being a player and helper, that’s what it’s establishing. The whole purpose is to welcome new people in, help them, and make them feel a part of the community. Could it not be that simple?

In fact, the New Member Experience is looking for representatives from every division to help out, and get a wider variation of people involved, both new and old members - an excellent opportunity to refine and develop your help and advice skills, as well as, possibly, meeting a new friend who loves the same games as you!
However, that might be all fine and well, however in the eyes of CCCPofAmerica:
“As long as events are kept up and running, regular and varied, we should be able to bring in new people and show what eGO has to offer- that goes for ALL divisions”.
So, overall there always needs to be the encouragement to join events for new members - and possibly getting them to help out and, most importantly, be a team player and participate in the community.

It is crucial that new members keep coming in; there’s a lack of new recruits coming in, and a “dry-spell” as it were. Because of the lack of new members, the PSC Division, and eGO overall, is being overworked, as counter-intuitive as that sounds. The Division is going through a stress-phase, being pushed to try and get more and more new members in, and make up for numbers which have been lost over time.
So come on! Get involved! Get your friends over, get them to sign up and participate! And, whilst you’re at it, sign up to be a ‘mentor’ to the NME: you never know, you might find a new friend - as well as develop a wide array of skills that you might’ve never known you had.

Happy winter, fellow EdgeGamers, and welcome to the latest edition of the official eGO Newsletter! This month, I have the pleasure of covering what's new in the Counter-Strike Division for the month of December.

Christmas is coming to town, and so is a new Division Leader for the CS Division! Please welcome _MEGA as he steps up to lead the CS Division in the right direction. Also joining the CS Leadership roster is ZER0C00L, the Division's newest recruiting and server-filling Advisor.

Along with a new Leadership roster comes a roster of additions to the CS Division. Weekly events are back and better than ever! The dedicated team of Event Coordinators has been working hard to bring back the fun events that many CS Division members enjoyed in the past. CS:S, CS:GO and, for the first time, Teamspeak 3 have a full set of weekly events hosted by the CS Event Coordinators, with the help of CS Leadership. Check the event calendar and be sure to join your fellow EdgeGamers members for a game of One vs One Hundred in CS:S, or hop into Teamspeak 3 and hang out with CS Leadership for a meet 'n greet.

At this point, you may be asking, "What can I do to help my division?" Fortunately, there are many ways you can contribute to your division! If you like meeting new people and playing in EdgeGamers' servers, then the CS Division Recruiting Team and Recruiting Coordinators program might be right for you! As a former CS Division Recruitment Coordinator, I encourage any and all CS divisional members to join the Recruiting Team and introduce players to the wonderful EdgeGamers community. For information regarding the CS Division's recruiting, contact ZER0C00L, CS Division's newest Recruiting Advisor.

Some of the biggest news in OP:X Division this past month was the release of World of Warcraft’s new expansion, Warlords of Draenor. While it had a bit of a rocky launch with the first 24 hours in particular featuring downtime, bugs and other technical glitches (Blizzard later made up for by compensating playtime), the expansion has settled down now, and after ten years since the release of the game (and now its fifth expansion), WoW is still going strong.

EdgeGamers is playing Horde on KORGATH US and you can ask for an invite to the guild once you make a character in, or transfer one to, the server. While they are a raiding guild, you do not have to commit to raiding if you just want to join the guild and hang out with eGO members while you level up or enjoy the new expansion and its content.

Learn more about what’s happening in WoW and with the WoD expansion in the forums.

In other OP:X news, Garry’s Mod has been working on climbing server rankings as well as boosting recruiting. If you’d like to help, you can join server filling efforts. Of course, anyone can help with recruiting. Attending recruiting classes and events will also help you learn more about how to recruit specifically for this game.

We also had some exciting news from League of Legends this past month. The Community Managers announced a unique partnership with the University of Kentucky's ranked 5's League of Legends team to create a League division of Team EDGE. A couple of their members were also interviewed on the EdgeGamers Podcast if you’d like to learn more about them.

Planetside 2 is making a small change to their weekly ops. Wednesday Night Ops starting on and after November 26 will be held at 8:00 pm ET instead of 9:00 pm. This is to allow more compatible times with school and work schedules. Friday Night Ops will remain at 9:00 pm ET.

Additionally, some members are still playing ArcheAge with EdgeGamers. For those interested in this free-to-play MMO, OP:X currently has a guild called Edge of Madness on the LUCIUS server under the Firran/Harani race. *NOTE: in order to be a part of this guild you MUST be Firran or Harani.

For many people, this time of year is about being thankful. The holiday season is a time for reflection. Before we enter a new year, we often look at the changes that have taken place in the current year. We might also look to the future, at goals we want to meet or things we want to accomplish. This is really no different for our community here in eGO’s TF2 Division.

I wanted to take time this month to show gratitude for all of the members, to reflect on what we have accomplished, and to look forward to a new year with each and every one of you.

2014 has been an eventful year for TF2. We have seen server changes and suffered server loss. We've seen leadership changes and suffered loss there as well. Some members have gone and others have returned. It’s never easy to say goodbye to good friends, to servers we have fond memories of, or to those who have led us valiantly this far.

However, we are rebounding. The division is growing, the servers are flourishing, and we are improving as a community every day. I could not be prouder of our members and all that we are accomplishing.

Sir Isaac Newton said, “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”

The same can be said for this community. The same can be said of this division. All members and Leadership alike who are here right now are here only because of those who came before us.

Change is difficult - more difficult for some than others. However, change is the nature of life and a gaming community is no exception. Even TF2 itself has morphed over the years and will continue to do so. While we must be flexible and adjust to changes, we also need to remember that doing so does not negate the things or the people who have come before. Embracing the future is not disgracing the past.

I am so grateful for the leadership who has come before me in this division, thankful for the leadership who currently serve this community alongside me, and hopeful for the future I know this division will continue to have.

I am grateful for every member of the past including those founding members who brought TF2 to EdgeGamers. I am thankful for each of you who currently make up this fantastic TF2 community and I am excited about the future of new members you will bring in.

When the things we love change, even in subtle ways, it can be a frightening experience. I understand this very well. I do ask each of you to remember that this division, this community we have built here, is a living thing in itself. It is constantly evolving because YOU make it what it is.

I believe in our community and I trust that we are going to continue to make it something great (possibly even greater than it ever has been!). If anyone is reading this who has left us, or just backed away from being active in the community for some reason or another, I invite you back. Join us in the servers, the forums, or in TeamSpeak 3. Come say hello.

We’re not just a bunch of people playing the same game at the same time. We are a community. We are a family. Sometimes we will fight. Sometimes we will disagree. Sometimes we will make mistakes. It can’t be sunshine and roses every day. We keep learning. We keep growing. We keep moving forward. At the end of the day, we’re here for one another and for that I am so very thankful.

Each time I see a member reach out to help someone who has made a mistake instead of just seeking punishment or retribution, I remember why I am so grateful to you all. Each time I see you give warm welcomes to new players and members, my heart fills with pride. Each time I see you confidently invite someone to EdgeGamers because you are so happy here yourself, I smile. Each time I see members discussing a disagreement calmly and respecting each other's position, even if they differ, it exemplifies the foundation upon which this gaming community was created.

I have every bit of confidence that 2015 is going to be a fantastic year for the Team Fortress 2 Division and I am so very proud to be here with each of you.

You are a great group of people and I am honored to be your Division Leader.

Here’s to 2015!

The Minecraft Division is one of many wonders, interests, and variations. If you’re not aware, chaps, the Minecraft Division recently had a server reset - this time, with the new, fresh, and interesting name of “Zeta.” Zeta is the new name of the map. Each new map restart has a different map layout, varying in terrain, weather, and "Mob" spawns; much like the setting of “Bonnie” Scotland. Every server follows the theme pertaining to Ancient Greece. Parenthetically, Zeta is the sixth of 24 letters in the Greek alphabet, not the last.

Of course, the big news is that Microsoft has purchased Mojang, the creator of Minecraft, for a whopping $2.5 billion US. Only time will tell what effect this will have on Minecraft servers.

With the new server reset, and various versions now available, the server itself is currently running on 1.7.10. This is an older version, compared to the new 1.8 version; however, this avoids several complications with "Bucket" (an admin plugin used in the Minecraft server). As you can understand, this is a difficult situation that the Tech Team is painfully trying to resolve during this transitional stage.

All is not lost, as many features of 1.7.10 are available, and it looks as though in the future, features of the 1.8 version may be integrated into the server to maintain an up-to-date feel and approach to the game.

With the recent server reset, there has been an exponential rise in numbers and popularity. Recruiting Advisor to the Minecraft Division Jade had this to say:

The new map has seen server numbers rocket. The cap on our server is 40, and the server has been full for the past few weeks. It has brought to the attention of possibly expanding; however that created lag problems in the server. Expansion will require fixing and patching, updating of plugins and software required for Admin and Minecraft to work for the community.

Exciting stuff, and it appears as though more is still to come. If you’re not aware, i.e. living under a rock, or in the Highlands of Scotland, you’d be pleased to know that every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are event nights in the division. With prizes such as “Dragon eggs” (which, to my understanding, are a valuable asset within the community for any player who knows his cobblestone from his clay), these are events you won't want to miss out on.

From an outsider's perspective, the division itself is relaxed, friendly, calm, and collected. It should come as no surprise that the division has members ranging in age from 12 to 56. I guess Minecraft is all for one and one for all.

The average member is generally aged 13-17, where initiative, cognitive ability and creation are often considered to be at their peak (I don't think so - Ed.). Again, Jade blissfully sums it up:

The game itself has some educational benefits: boosting creativity, primarily pixel-art. Letting their imagination run wild with excitement.

Many of the prejudices of Minecraft can be put aside, with reasonable admin support and watchfulness - apart from a few “Griefers”, nothing bad happens. The members themselves are assets to the community, helping and being respectful and on the lookout for any trouble that may appear over the blocky, pixeled horizon.

So you, sir/madam (aye, the happy chappie sitting at your desk), can put all prejudices and stereotypes about the game aside, and join in with the fun and games and see what this division has to offer!

Well, maybe a Creeper, but I'm sure you’ll have a ball!
