Hey guys, I like to create discussions around pointless topics, so here goes another: How did you come up with your in-game name?
I'll go first, though mine is not as exciting or convoluted as I'm sure others are:

My last name is 13 letters long and French, and even by French standards is difficult to pronounce; so, we've always had a family nickname. With my grandfather, it used to be Molly. For my dad, it became Moose, and stuck. I'm the only one in the family that uses it anymore, but it's agreed that I'm the most fitting to the name. :)

The screename I've always used was captainnemojr because I'm from a small town in Texas called Nemo and you know the story of Captain Nemo blah blah (Nemo is so small you can see one city limit sign from the other). Well captainnemo was taken, so I added the jr to the end. Anyway come along TFC and it didn't allow for spaces for Captain Nemo, so Captain I became for all of my playing days and a little of TF2. But I decided new game, new name, so I switched it to Nemo, not thinking about Finding Nemo, but hey keep on joking, I'll keep on killing :).

Oh and btw, it's 12:06PM in case you didn't need me to tell you how I built the watch when you asked the time...

Mine's an obscure reference to an orson scott card novel, in i think it was ender's shadow or maybe the one right after Bean uses an email address with Icomeanon in it.

Neat stuff, guys...though Nemo, your watch reference confuses and therefore scares me. :)

(I know your title covers it, but there is already a rather lengthy thread on this topic)

I just...idk...I just came up with it, was playing cs:s one day and was like ApexFog is old, and I think I need a new one, and so I just came up with it.

Nice nemo...nice

You have horns? Awesome.

I've always wanted a neat nickname that wasn't some perversion of my last name (which is deliciously pervertable). Instead I've had to settle with making up my internet pseudonyms. "Barlim" was a necromancer I had in Diablo 2, and later a warlock in WoW. Being incredibly lazy, I chose to use this for my TF2 name, and honestly I couldn't think of anything better.

Oh, and my last name is German. I'm coming for you, Moose!

So Moose, I speak French. I bet I could pronounce your last name just fine.
My name initially was Bavarde, which is French for chatterbox. Then one day I got the Hardcore achievement and it reminded me of an episode of the Powerpuff Girls where Bubbles gets tired of everyone saying she's sweet and not a tough fighter. She goes down into their virtual reality scrim room and keeps fighting harder and harder monsters til she beats the toughest, scariest one. Then she turns around with a fierce look on that cute little face and says something like, "Now I'm HARDCORE!"
And also because I'm just like Bubbles, except I'm not 5, and I wasn't created in a lab. Oh and I'm not really a superhero.
That and our daughter really looks a lot like Bubbles and is almost the same age.

Years ago, my wife and I were driving from Madrid, NM home to Albuquerque. On the way, you drive through a town in the Sandia mountains called Cedar Crest. Driving along, I saw a sign for a place that would hold funerals for your pets.

Hilarity ensued. My wife and I laughed for about an hour, imaging what it would be like for someone to hold a funeral for a fish named Flippy. For weeks, we'd walk around the house and say, "I miss Flippy," and then burst out into peals of laughter.

Later, as I was teaching some classes at work and was lecturing on the importance of good passwords, I started saying, "don't tell someone, 'my password is flippy the squirrel'."

Finally, I got Half-Life2 and ran home to install it. Up to this point, all of my in-game names had always been "AfroNinja" (a Jim Kelley / Enter the Dragon joke that I thought of in '91). I was sad to discover that the name was already taken, and after trying a couple of other names, I just typed in "flippy_the_squirrel" in annoyance.

Since then, it's grown on me, and since playing TF2 (where it uses that name instead of one you enter in-game), I've become quite proud to be identified with such a goofy name.

Haha Moose, it's a saying. When someone asks you a question "So why Nemo?" and I go into this long history of stuff. It's like someone asking "Excuse me sir, what time is it?" And I tell them how I built the watch instead of the time. Meaning it's a simple quesiton and to reply to your thread I could have said "Well I grew up in a town called Nemo."

And Bubbles is definitely hardcore. She kept trying to burn me yesterday at the Meet and Greet :(

Yeah, but the long descriptions are much more fun!

It fits my personality.

I've been using the name since the internet was invented and have several friends in real life that have culled a nickname from it.

Waaaaay back in the early days of teh interwebs, I happened across a nifty little program that would generate a 'hacker name'. Well, being the *ahem* mature person that I was all that time ago... decided it would be great. "NinjaFluff" was the first thing to come up. I was dumbstruck. It was so incredibly stupid that I figured it would be worth it.

To this day, I never have to find an alternate spelling or add a number to anything :-)

Oh, I remember her calling for you in between my insanity that is the voice impressions, Nemo. :)

I needed a name for a counter-strike beta clan (The Infinite Zero) and I always enjoyed the CG Saturday morning show "Reboot". The main character was the "Guardian" of the system and I think that's where I got it initially. I stole the "-x" from my buddy Blink-x (mostly out of spite for him being better than me) because we all know that the x is much cooler than having nothing at the end of your name. Moose-X has a nice ring to it, hmmmm...

Reboot was awesome! I wish they'd sell the DVDs. So, the next question is: Which guardian would you be? Bob, Bad@$$ Enzo, or the later Bob?

My first real computer game was Starcraft (Original). One day as I was playing on-line, a group of people joined my game. They had names like EarthElement, WaterElement and such. I decided to try AirElement after that. The 01 is the year I graduated from high school. The name stuck with me because it conveys my nature. I'm usually somewhere around you in the game but you can never really see me. Besides, you know you can't live without me. :D
