Engineers should guard each other's sentries instead of their own.

Engineers can pass through friendly engis' buildings but not their own. So if they guard someone else's sentry instead it can prove to be a huge advantage in certain situations. Especially against spies.

Yup, this is absolutely a fantastic tactic I've used with Bubbles and Dangerdad on many occasion. It's nice for the sentry you're guarding not to shoot you.

Wrenching a spy through a sentry will make them cry hax though.

i have found it good to set 2 dispencers near 1 gun and have someone else stay on that gun while they build one at a slight angle to support that one and you run back and forth to it out of your own line of fire

I've done this before and I agree. However, I don't like letting this known, as spies may do things...

This sounds pretty good. The main problem is that there aren't warnings if the buildings are getting sapped, and you don't know how much life the buildings have left. There are signs of this, though. I think sappers on the buildings would be pretty obvious to the eye.

Thats a good tip. I've been surprised at how often other engies will rush to the aid of someone elses Sentry... In some other servers people only look out for their own stuff....

Much better teamwork in our servers

I think if a spies knife can stab you in the back from the front then it should be able to stab through a sentry. So it sure is hax :)

Brilliant strategy. Totally brilliant. Yeah, you have to keep an eye open for those sparking sappers, but the benefits are pretty huge. (Although, if your neighbor's building get destroyed, you can't rebuild it.)

But with the two of you there level 3 sentry should be up at a max of 1 minute

The number of engineers on the team and the amount of metal on the map (sans dispensers) will change the effectiveness of this strategy. If you have four engineers fighting over the metal and spies on the other team trying to nip your defense in the bud (Gravelpit point B sees this scenario all too often), it can be hard when everybody ends up rushing off to hammer the sappers off his own sentry (since only one person gets the notification) and engineers will be running all over looking for metal...while the idea of guarding another sentry is great and useful in most situations, if the enemy spies are talented enough and they can keep your dispensers down it can really cause total chaos.

That's why you build one level 3 sentries together instead of three level ones. Then build another level three. It is a team game after all.
To do well as an engineer, you need help from other engineers. Be that breaking sapper, building/repairing buildings. It is not possible for you to be at the right places all the time.
Just repair others buildings, maybe they will return you a favor later. When you are working with other engineers, you do better and they do better. It is a win win. :D
