My thoughts after two weeks of DoD:S

So I have this love hate relationship with the game. I've been playing for the last two weeks trying to get into it and I enjoy events and getting on in the evening but not so much on the public servers.

I'm mainly sharing my thoughts because I'm curious if others feel the same way in the division. Since I'm new to the game these things are new to me.

I love that the game is challenging but I feel like it's also completely stupid in some areas. I was in Avalanche this morning and a guy drops down from their second (on axis) with an MG. He points it at the wall to the apartments and kills me through the wall. Really? Bleh.

I also find MGs annoying period because all you have to do is find a good spot and just camp there. Same with snipers. Obviously this is present in just about any FPS you play, however I find it super irritating in DoD:S.

I LOVE the rifles in the game. I just wish they were more useful to a team. It's like they're not quite a sniper rifle and they're not quite a close quarters SMG. They are great though don't get me wrong. My favorite class is the rifleman.

I also hear people complain about the Thompson a lot but I don't feel it's any different than the MP40. I actually like the MP40 better. Someone want to explain the Thompson OPness? =P

I haven't played support much but I do like that you can snipe with the single shot. And thanks to Chuck for showing me the jump burst shot. It's like face roll on keyboard ;)

Anyway, I love the game. Love the company and can't get enough of the events. Thank you all so much for welcoming me in so warmly.

Versed,

I am in the same boat with you on the love-hate relationship of the game. Most of your worries will go away once you learn the routes to get rid of the campers. For almost all MG and Sniper camping locations, there is a route around them and an angle to kill them or sneak up on them.

On the rifles, you just have to practice your aim, strafing, and choose your route through the map so that you are at long range with possible enemies. If you get in close, you are at a disadvantage, so try to lead with nades on the blind corners and then just deal with the ones further away.

Have fun!

There's your problem.

Anyway, see you in the servers!

This.

Basically, take it from someone who only plays Avalanche allies, it can turn you sour real quick if you don't have a good team.

The map is almost more axis biased than charlie/strand.

If you enjoy your sanity, stay off allied on Avalanche.

Your frustration with the MG and Sniper's are mostly due to people playing the class wrong. Obvi' if you're playin in AVA you'll see it more, being the most pop Server, of course. MG's, though, are meant to set up and pin down Flags and choke points. What gets me is when you get new players or the 1 guy who sits in ONE spot ALL game with the Sniper class. That's playing it wrong IMO.

Well I have played dod for nearly 15 years now and enjoy every minute.
Allies in Avalanche have to push hard to win but unfortunately you get caught with a lot of the team playing for point's so you keep losing.
But as I say, I never lose because I enjoy the game and every round is a winner for me.

I too enjoy the rifle classes, both of them. I rarely play MG, as I cant find the patience to sit still for even 1 minute. I have to move, and that goes for sniper as well. I will push as far forward as I can, bust as many MG's and other snipers as I can before I go down. I have been known to cap out on Donner as the sniper class. My new love is the support class. It started when I got my Razer DeathAdder 2013, and got a fancy cool Rocketfish mousepad. With the gaming mouse and a good pad, you can really control that recoil, a LOT. A few bursts with either the BAR or STG can be and usually is pretty deadly, even at distance.

The only time I pick up the assault class is out of necessity, or when on random. I cannot get it to do for me what is done to me consistently. Yesterday, by the allied sandbag on the corner by their second flag, a thompson strafed and sprayed towards the bridge. took like 3 shots and then popped back around the corner. Well, the very FIRST bullet out of his gun hit me right in the head, half concealed at corner by bridge. That is just unfair. This is not the first time, the thompson is responsible for more shots on me like that than I can count. I understand the class's importance. Clearing buildings for the rest of the crew, utilizing smoke for team advancement. I get that, but very few others use it for that. They would rather go prone in a corner and wait. Or just spray and collect headshots. I rarely see that same thing with the MP40.

i started out playing MG several years ago and then grdaually switched to support. i'll camp but i don't like camping like you have to when you play mg. as far as sniper i've never been a god sniper so i just leave that class open for better snipers

But if you feel like playing the sniper class or feel like practicing, by all means snatch it up! Your K/D doesnt matter as long as youre helping obtain the objectives! :)

If you love the rifle, I def would recommend Axis rifle, she is my baby! <3

Well that explains a lot :P At least I know I'm not alone in a lot of this. Ty Tip for explaining the Thompson thing. And Lt.Nord, I love me some Axis rifle, until I miss ;)

Overall I know that every game has its issues. I mean I could sit here and complain about all of the Counter Strike games and their flaws. I just like getting the perspective of members that have been playing a while.

Yep, thompson/mp40 could just be removed from the game...the crap headshots are a real downer.

That being said, I still think the support class is the best in the game once you learn to control the recoil. My favorite weapon is the springfield, and I never stop moving(you can't or you die).

I've been recently practicing with the rifles and I have to say I really dig the garand.

Yeah that's always a killer, that and shooting someone close range an they don't die. >_<

Also, superunknown, we will never ask anyone, pub or member alike, to give up any one class for someone better at it. All have a right to play with any class for as long as they want. I would recommend grabbing the sniper every once in a while... its very satisfying to go up against some of these good players. Take Dangle for instance... He will shoot me ten times in a row from the same spot. Not to say that he stays there, but every time I get back, there he is. I will try over and over to get that shot off before he can. I do a big ol' fist pump when I finally get it. Point is, try all the classes... you never know, you may find some inspiration for sniping :)

On the topic of sniping, I love that the sniper rifle no scoping is a lot like in Counter Strike. So that makes it easier for me. I find with the sniper rifle though, oddly, I have to keep moving. I am so confused how these people who sit in one spot get kills. I just eat nades to the face or some guy flanks me and punches my face :P

i'm practicing as a rifleman these days because i feel like if i can get good at that then i can upgrade to snipe. besides rifle fits my playstyle a little more i like moving around.

i've also been experimenting with my key bindings to find something that makes it easier to do things like the corner jump/crouch so right now i have my crouch mapped to my right mouse so that would totally screw up any sniping i'd try and do.

but that's what i love about this game! i've been plying for damn near 10 years and i'm still finding it fun and challenging. i don't like easy games. that feeling of accomplishment when you start getting positive k/d with a weapon you aren't used to using is amazing! oh and axis rifle is my fave! oh god it feels so good when you get that one shot kill!

oh i know you guys would never do something like kick me off snipe because i suck. it's why i've been wanting to join this clan for so long! the single best online community i've ever gamed with. for real. and i love that me and my lil bro can game together without having to worry about hearing someone cuss him out or start using racial slurs and all that.
he had so much fun at the last event he was literally jumping around he was so excited when he didn't get discovered lol

Just stick to the thompson and mp40. You can literally run around and get headshots without trying. Also, make sure to practice your proning in dark corners or under stairs. I highly recommend using the MG also, as you can play the game without really playing...Once you get good at all of the above and you think you're ready for a real challenge, try the sniper rifle. It's really hard to kill people with such a high powered rifle and a scope that zooms in on the opponents face :P
