hey guy's kami here

i'll make this real short
i'm thinking bout trying to get a WiFi booster or extender or something along those lines to try to hopefully get better internet reliability up here

i'm pretty sure most of ya'll are aware i am Way up in mountains of SC on Border of NC and only service providers up here are Hughes net (using currently) Dish network possibly and Exede internet (thing of switching too) which are all satellite and dial up

i was thinking of possibly tiring to get one of these to try to help issues but i don't want to waste or burn money and not work

are any of these any good which one would you recommend or something else??

waiting patiently for comments

WiFi extenders will not help with your Satellite or Dialup connection. They'll only arguably augment your WLAN network, which is completely different (but not invalid) issue.

If you want better satellite reliability, you're gonna have to talk to your ISP or home-brew some sort of better dish.

you know what might be a better option for you. Do you have cell service where your house is. If you do and its 4g. ditch your sat internet and see if you cell provider offers unlimited Data and get yourself a wifi hotspot.

no no real cell phone service here only one reaches anywhere close up in yer is Verizon all the others lose service 10-12 miles out

i told ya'll i am in the moutians

I think the WiFi question was answered (it doesn't apply to the original question).

As for Exede (used to by SkyBlu). My parents have this at there place. While it is decent enough for web browsing , email, etc, it isn't going to work too hot for games that play better with lower latency. But you get what you can get.

I do know they cap your downloads once you hit your monthly GB limit and the Quality of Service kicks in and you get some pretty bad download speeds (unless you call to pay for more data for the month ($$)). It's still going to be better than dial-up from a performance standpoint, but not cost.

Do you have regular copper phone lines where you are? Maybe look into something like SDSL or similar from a company that specializes in longer distance broadband. Speakeasy can maybe help you with that. It can be kinda pricey but would be better for gaming than satellite. Sat will get you better download speeds but the latency would be fairly unusable for online gaming. For gaming latency is far more important than throughput.

Getting a WiFi extender is an option, however it limits your Internet speed, so if you have an Internet speed above the capacity of the extender, there's no point. But it's a good alternative if your modem is far away from your PC/laptop/etc.

wifi extender will not make ur wifi faster. Best bet is move hehe:P Wifi extender is great for big houses where u get bad wifi. But will not speed up ur internet.
