The Twelve Days of Caelmas 2014

My eyelid is literally twitching right now. stupid penguins.

On to the next!

I checked my post from yesterday and realized I forgot to show my proof (silly me, I hope it's not too late) I dont have a screenshot because I was on and off yesterday so I got 20 backstabs here and there, but my total can be seen at the GameME site. "http://edgegamers.gameme.com/awards/tf/2014/12/30" If you go to that (just copy and paste it in your search bar if that's easier) the award of most backstabs for the day of December 30th, 2014 is "Tyraze with 154 backstab kills" Sorry I dont have a screenshot to make things easier, didnt know I needed to post one and don't think I'd be able to get that many backstabs in one run XD Merry Caelmas to all! It was fun getting all those stabs! :D

On the seventh day of Caelmas, Caelestis gave to me...

...Shadowrun Returns!

Engineering is hard work. Most people have to go to college for four or five years to learn everything they need to know to get a mere entry-level job in engineering in today's market. Fortunately for us, TF2 has simplified this into hitting things with wrenches. Engineering made simple! And what is more simple than an uncontested victory? Nix is taking home a copy of the game Shadowrun Returns, a steampunk-fantasy RPG hybrid. Technology and trolls, dystopian corporations and orc hordes. Something for everyone!

Day 8 is upon us. Greek mythology is my bag, baby. Long before the Romans were stealing these stories wholesale, Greek myths were some of the earliest depictions of deities as something other than stern-faced sky lords. They are so influential, we see their presence in modern society. To win today's Caelmas challenge, be the first to send me a PM answering this question:

Which Greek mythological monster has a modern-day animal named after it?

uhm... for the january first answer:

There is the Hydra. Which is a genus of simple cnidarean polyps. They are related to Jellyfish and sea anenomes and nearly microscopic. Obviosuly they are named after the Lernaean Hydra with its multiple snake heads slain by Hercules.

And before you say Genus isnt a species. When we talk about Gorillas we are generally refering to both species of Gorilla. As in both eastern and western gorillas. And they fall under the same genus(Gorilla)

Funnily there are two types of cnidarean, Polyps(which hydra and anemones are) and Medusas (which jellyfish are.)

Here is a picture of a hydra

Here is a picture of THE Hydra

There are also sphinx moths but they are also refered to as hawk moths so I wont go into detail about them

Psst, it should be in a Private Message (PM). To Cael.
If you post it here, people might copy you.

On the eighth day of Caelmas, Caelestis gave to me...

...a lot of nice stuff!

Today was an interesting day of Caelmas. I came up with this challenge question around 2 in the morning and it showed, since there were multiple correct answers. First to answer was A Nudist Colony with the answer Python. Python was the legendary snake creature slain by Apollo at Delos, lending the title Pythia to the god's oracular priestess. For that correct answer, Nudist took home a Strange Medigun (Apollo is a god of healing, after all). Noblenote also correctly answered this question.

Nix was next to give a correct answer: Hydra. The Lernaean Hydra was one of Hercules's 12 labors. It was a monstrous creature with 9 heads, one of which was immortal and the other 8 very mortal but also prone to sprouting more heads if decapitated. Lots of heads can get very thirsty, so Nix got a Bonk Helm.

The most interesting answer, by far, was Mister36's. He went the very circuitous route of associating me with the seahorse and then circling back to the legendary monster that translates literally to sea-horse in Greek: the hippocampus. For being so brainy, Mister36 got the Dogfighter cosmetic for the Engineer (he beat Puliping to the punch with this answer by 15 minutes).

Lastly, Fullmetal gave the answer I was actually looking for: Echidna. The mother of most monsters in Greek mythology, Echidna lends her name to that cousin of the platypus made familiar worldwide through Knuckles the Echidna from Sonic the Hedgehog. For that, he who is most adorable won The Cthulhu Saves the World & Breath of Death VII Double Pack. Congratulations to all you fine mythological nerds out there!

Phew! The ninth day dawns on us in fiery glory. I need all my pyromaniacs front and center today for this one:

Get the most melee kills as Pyro!

I definitely did not screen every kill because that would totally crimp my style, but believe me when I have about 20 here.

...a festive Axtinguisher!

Congratulations to Nix for lighting up tonight's challenge! Handily securing the most melee kills as Pyro, he wins a fancy festive Axtinguisher so he can be extremely jovial as he puffs and stings. Great job, Nix!

Ten lords a-leaping, Batman! We're quickly coming to the end of Caelmas. Who needs skill when you can be charming? Nobody, of course. I certainly didn't get through law school on intelligence. Impress me with your most amusing screenshot. I don't care when you took it. I don't care where you took it. The screenshot just needs to be compliant with the eGO Code of Conduct. Make me laugh! You may submit multiple entries.

Show me your funniest screenshot!

Hey, look... a challenge I can finally participate in, without any weird sleeping schedules or anything like that.

What happens when you combine the Thirst Blood and the Level Three Chin on top of a Soldier? Well.... this.

My three favorites.

I think a lot of people have screenshots similar to this from when the conga taunt was released.
