What's in your opinion the best PC game ever...

For me is all the King's/Police/Space quest series along with Leisure Suit Larry Laffer, from Sierra On-Line.

Why? Because after my father bought me my first PC (80086, 640Kb RAM, 2 5.25" floppy drives, Hercules graphics), the first game that I borrowed was Larry Laffer. Imagine a 14 years old boy playing that :P

Well, returning to the subject, maybe it should be "What was your first ever PC game you've played?"

Then after that I'd probably say Xcom

But I'd say the first one I played was jumpman or impossible mission.
 
The Metal Gear Solid series. So many games owe a debt to Hideo Kojima and what he was able to create, it's staggering. In the FPS arena, I'd have to go back to the Ultima and Wizardry games, 'cause they showed what was possible.

In fact, do you remember the original Bard's Tale, or Wasteland? Those were watershed events in the history of gaming as well.

In the console division of gaming, yes Metal Gear is king!
 
I started late. Baldur's Gate was the first PC game I ever played, with Worms Armageddon being the first game I ever bought
 
The first ever bought PC game was F15:Strike Eagle II... Awesome simulator...(in those days)
 
First one I ever bought was Wasteland (for the PC anyways, I had hundreds of C=64 games).

As far as PC games (I have MGS on the brain lately, sorry) ... I'd have to go with the classics, like StarCraft (still going strong after over a decade. wow.) ... Umm .. Zork. People underestimate the impact of Infocom on gaming.

Let's not forget Fallout. Truly amazing and the basis of most conventions used in CRPGs today... umm ... Doom, of course. How could we forget Doom?

Deus Ex was exceptionally innovative, and still has a place on my shelf.

X-Com, of course, is amazing still.

Anyone remember Full Throttle? That was a great one.

I'll stop now. I could go on forever. It's so hard to pick.
 
My favorite game was Q2 w/ the CTF mod

My first game ever played/bought on a computer was Space Quest 1, but Leisure Suit Larry was close behind.

Couldn't agree more, I still think Deus Ex was ahead of its time.

Personally, I've spent more time playing the TIE Fighter series than any other simulator, so I still hold that series in very high regard.

Continuing along with my Star Wars trend (when I was a kid, I didn't play many games that weren't Star Wars), I'd also have to say that Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight was/still is an AWESOME game, and I attribute that game to starting my modding career.

I looked it up on wiki, so shoot me if my stats are wrong, but Half-Life is the highest-selling PC fps of all time. It was incredible, and with that, I've got to give a shout out to my favorite fps from back in the day, Team Fortress Classic.
 
^^ Agreed, Dues Ex as indeed ahead of its time.
Doom was the main game I grew up with. The music alone is intoxicating.
aside from that, Commander Keen, Street Fighter, and Command & Conquer.
Oh and Monkey Island. Gotta love the point and click games.
 
First game i've bought was Super Mario bros, for the snes. Best game ever is Super Smash Bros, for N64.
 
Man the first games i played were Digger, Tapper and alley cat on my dads old 33 hz ibm.. but the best Pc game has to be Wolfenstien .. it was the first fps i played and have been hooked ever since
 
FYI first gaem i evered palyed was when i was 9... it was half-life 1 . great game
 
aiki making me feel old :( I was 17 haha. yeah i'd have to say Half-Life 1. I still play it.
 
Castle Wolfenstein was the first I can really remember. All of the quest games were fun and I'll still find time to play every now and again
 
THE best game ever is, and will always be: The Half-Life series... Wins every category! But then again, I'm like the biggest Half-Life fan ^^

The Half-Life series is great, including Opposing Force, but not so much Blue Shift. I love going back and replaying them, but it's difficult to do without hacks, because once I skip through a small, boring part with hacks, I tend to just keep them on.
