true half life is the best but I wanna know what the first game you played was..... sorry not trying to Hyjack the topic just building on it....
do any of you remember using the old pc's with no hard drive and the 5 and 1/4 floppy's.. Do you rmrber the game PAINT BRUSH!!! old IBM classics,,

The first ever PC game I played (not counting those crappy educational games) was NASCAR Racing back in 1993 or 1994. It was pretty awesome for its time, with blocky 3D graphics and lo-res, pixelated textures. The thing was, it had pretty awesome damage modeling - pieces could fall off and everything. I was too young to know how to play for real, so I'd just drive backwards and ram the other cars. Great times, great times. This was for DOS too, it was funny.

I'd vote the best ever to be Starcraft. Great, well-balanced game with 3 completely different races, which I believe was ahead of its time back then. My favorite parts were the free b.net service and the custom mapmaking, though. The custom mapmaking in conjunction with the online ability made the game just about infinitely replayable. It's always the first game I install, and I make sure never to uninstall it. I can still play fun LAN games with friends, and this game is over 10 years old. I don't know of that many games with this kind of longevity.

Of course I remember those PC's, I still have a bunch of those disks with games like California Games, Test Drive, Tetris, All the King's/Space/Police Quest, Karateka... and the list keeps going and going...

How could I have forgotten this bad boy? ...

One of the greatest games ever released, in my most humble opinion, was Fallout. Originally intended to be a sequel to Wasteland (another watershed video game and a true hall-of fame game), it became the gold standard for computer role-playing games in much the same way that StarCraft is the gold standard for real-time strategy gaming.

So anyways, I have been following the development of the Fallout series since early in this decade, and watched with horror as Interplay went under, then tried to come back. I was thrilled when Fallout's IP was sold the Bethesda, but despaired of ever seeing a Fallout title (aside from total excrement like Brotherhood of Steel).

I was, therefore, thrilled to the point of being irritating (more so than usual) when Bethesda put up the Fallout 3 website, and started showing off some concept art. Since then, I check in periodically and get excited all over again.
 
It's a close tie between Doom and FF6...
The first one, cause i can't stop screaming...the second one cause it's just THAT AWESOME.
 
The first game i ever played was Space Quest. My best games are Command and Conquer, Oblivion and CoD 4, but with Assassins Creed for PC coming up that's about to change :P

Another excellent game is Alone in the Dark, and that little book for password gave me a lot of trouble, I don't recall how many times lost it somewhere in my room... LOL!
 
hmm....best game ever.......well for me...there are 2

Quake 2 and Secret of Mana still own them both :D

2 be honest...right now im playing secret of mana :D
 
First: Simtower I believe (man that game is still fun :D)

Best: Hmm... looking back across all the games I've ever played, I'd have to say... Anything in the total war series, Rome, Medieval, Shogun, and I hope Empire is just as good :)

crysis, but diablo was the first game i played on pc, and i love that game, and its sequel and im really excited for diablo 3
 
Now this is a tough one.... The first, FPS game i have played was Quake (original) on my 486 with windows 95 lol... The first game that we had bought for it was Nascar Racing (which was also previously mentioned) and they were pretty cool for their time. When I was in the Nintendo age, my most played game was Super Mario Brothers 3, and dont forget Tec Bowl and Mike Tysons Punch Out. One of my favorite RPG's is Final Fantasy 7. One of the games I was most addicted to was the Diablo Series. I spent many many days,weeks, months on all of my characters on diablo 2 and, once again, am very excited that they are releasing Diablo 3. One of my most favorite "Thinking" games (its also fps if its considered that) is Portal. It is the ONLY reason I had originally bought the 50 dollar orange box. ATM, My most favorite FPS is, of course, Team Fortress 2. One of my (current) most favorite racing games is Need For Speed Pro Street. My favorite older racing games was the Gran Turismo series. Gran Turismo was the first game I had ever played on the Playstation when we got it. I use to own the first 4 of the series, and wish I had a PS3 to try out the upcomming Gran Turismo 5.

Some other games I play include, Half-Life series, Need For Speed Series, Starcraft, Warcraft series (i have the original Warcraft 2, not the B.Net Edition), WoW, Tomb Raider (havent played in a long time), Tribes Series, and many many many many more. lol. Currently a PC Only Gamer and eventually would like to buy Assassins Creed for PC (hear is a great game).

some consoles i use to own.... NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64 (its in my storage building somewhere ^^), Playstation, Playstation 2, Dreamcast.

(BTW One of my favorite games that was released for Dreamcast which was a flying game was called Airforce Delta... Oh how I wish Sega would have improved the Dreamcast :( )
