Hey guys.

This has been bothering me for a while but I thought I could find solutions on my own....but nothing is really working so I must be doing something wrong. I'm having fps problems on CSGO where the average in game fps I get is ~ 50. When there's serious gunfight (or a map with crazy textures/lighting) it goes to an average of ~30. This is seriously annoying and hindering my abilities to play well and enjoy the game. I've looked up fps boosts and tips but nothing is really helping me so I wanted to ask if someone could tell me that either my computer is just too old and bad or maybe my configurations are wrong.

Laptop Specs:
(i know...its a laptop)
- i7 2630QM
- 16GB ram
- 700GB HDD
- 1GB Radeon HD 6770M
- Windows 7

Video settings in game:

Launch options:

Rates:
rate 80000
cl_cmdrate 128
cl_updaterate 64
cl_interp_ratio 2
cl_interp 0
fps_max 120 (currently, but I've tried under 100, 300, 999..doesn't make a difference)

I've tried changing my video settings to 4:3 ratio with 800x600 resolution. It barely affected it if at all (aside from making the game look horrible).

Thanks in advance.

1. Here's all of my launch options you can try, that I have:

-32bit -nod3d9ex -threads 4 -novid -tickrate 128 +mat_vignette_enable 0 -high +exec autoexec

2. Here are some of my autoexec commands if you want to try some or all of them. They are the ones for rates and some other stuff:

cl_cmdrate "128"
cl_interp "0.03"
cl_interp_ratio "1.0"
cl_interpolate "1"
cl_lagcompensation "1"
cl_updaterate "128"
rate "100000.0"
cl_predictweapons "1"

cl_righthand "1"
cl_forcepreload "1"
hud_showtargetid "1"
net_graph "0"
mm_dedicated_search_maxping "80"
mat_queue_mode "-1"
cl_disablehtmlmotd “1”
cl_disablefreezecam “1”
adsp_debug "0"
func_break_max_pieces "0"
cl_debugrumble "0"
cl_detail_avoid_force "0"
cl_detail_avoid_radius "0"
cl_detail_max_sway "0"
cl_logofile "0"

cl_showpluginmessages "1"
cl_rumblescale "0"

4. You could try to unpark your CPU cores if you haven't already.

5. Download CCleaner to clean out your comp a bit:

6. Disable Steam overlay in-game if you don't use steam while in-game

7. Remember, CSGO and all Source games are very CPU dependent, so make sure you do not have any programs in the background that you do not need running on.

8. And of course, it wouldn't be a "How to boost fps" thread if I didn't say: Make sure your drivers are up to date.

thanks for the reply!

I tried some of your settings but it didn't do much, I think my fps went up maybe 5pts or so from some of the rate changes. Thanks for the tips though. I usually don't have anything open while I play a game and the CPU usage even in game is about 25-30% so I'm not sure what is causing me to have such terrible fps. My laptop is 3 years so it might be time for a new one but it runs everything else fine. I know CSS is a lot less consuming but I get around 200fps on that lol. I'd happy with just ~80fps on csgo.

Have you tried r_3dsky 0? This works for the older source engine games and has helped my fps become smooth, albeit I can't play CS:GO with the command anyway because my laptop is too underpowered.

It could just be a glitch with the video card and I would probably contact support about it or the graphics card company to see if it is indeed related to your graphics card. Most mobile chipsets bought within the last three years should run quite well on the new Source engine. I would check online to see if there's a new update for it, or try rolling back a few updates on it to see if the issue is persistent.
