Ok. So I have an EVGA Z87 motherboard with a Haswell 4770k in it. It's dying. Looking at Z97 replacements, and the reviews are ALL over the place. I only have experience with ASUS ROG and EVGA boards, so any input would be welcome.

I do OC, budget is not an issue.

Appreciated.
 
Can you tell us your current setup & let us know what you plan to keep for your future build.

I want to know if you have more than 1 video card, so I can help you get an idea of which motherboard to go after.

Ya I was kinda curious about that as well myself. I mean I just upgraded to an ASRock Z77 motherboard w/ a used i5-3570k. I know that ill be fine for at least 2-3 years easily. However, if he wants to go spending the $$ on the latest & greatest, then we can only offer help to get him what hes requesting.
 
My EVGA Z87 board has 2 fried DIMM slots, and since I have 4 sticks of RAM, I can't use it to it's full capacity. I don't have a problem with Z87, but I figure if I'm getting a new mobo, I might as well upgrade at the same time.

I am interested in upgrading in the next year to a dual video card scenario, so feel free to factor that in.

Wise, I'm taking this one under advisement, I just like a couple to compare.
 
Unfortunately, that's an LGA 2011 socket, I need an 1150. X99 isn't a possible chipset for my build.

Honestly the most costly and best option for overclocking. ASUS built this motherboard for overclockers in mind. Come with their subzero technology to watch temps accurately without spending a ton of money on thermometers. Supports up to 2800 DDR3 RAM speeds. LN2 Mode switch. 3 Thermal sensor connectors. The probIet points where you can connect a multimeter to their designated points to accurately track voltages. OC Key. Thunderbolt. On board wifi. 4 way SLI support.

Probably one of the best motherboards on the market for overclocking. But you'll be paying the price for that.

I'm not sure why people keep recommending boards with the wrong socket... it can be a costly mistake if Leftenent didn't know better.
 
Right? I was very clear about my processor, and the chipset I'm looking for. Luckily I have built every PC I've owned since 1996, so it's not a mistake I'm going to make, but for those seeking advice who aren't as savvy....make sure you're giving the CORRECT information, please. Otherwise, what's the point of having a tech forum with bad info?

^Very similar to mine but I have a Z77 & mine is an Extreme 3 (there is a newer version of this motherboard, but its not nearly as popular and enjoyable as this one)

Whats sad about this is the lack of selection of LGA1150 motherboards, especially in different sockets. Seems that LGA1155 had a better selection when it was really popular (& this is exactly the cpu/mobo combo I went with).

Its called a mistake when reading his socket. I read it as 1155. Mistakes happen and people dont need to put others on blast for it.

Honestly just about any high end MSI or ASUS board is going to do the trick.

I'd go with one of the motherboards that pillar recommended. Can't remember the last time he gave a bad suggestion.
