Then I highly recommend getting one. When TF2 first came out, I went the first 2 months without a mic. Looking back, I can't believe I played without one.

In order for my mic chatty to works, I have to buy a new sound card.
Right now I either use vent or a series of clicks and vibrations to get my point across.

Yeah, I actually feel that buying a mic has helped my game quite a bit, everyone should get one if they can.

I actually use my bluetooth headset that I bought for my phone and rarely used. The upside is that it's wireless and since Windows recognizes it as a separate sound device, I'm able to route Vent to the earpiece on the headset while still playing game sounds over my 5.1 system.

The downside is that it doesn't hold a charge very well -- especially when I'm piping Vent through it.

I have a mic, I have no idea how well it works. But people have yet to start complaining that I just made their subwoofer explode, or something of that sort.

^ I say that because there are some people's mics that whenever they start talking my subwoofer goes nuts, it's really annoying.

But yes, mics are pretty much indispensable. Unless you enjoy getting killed while typing out a long message...

You shouldn't feel that way, dude! People on the servers are really cool. There's plenty to talk about between whats going on in the game and sporadic chit-chat.

ah carne I heard you today and you sound just fine on your mic . The other day we were playing in a server and there was a little guy of 7 that was barking orders to everyone it was very funny.. but he was trying so hard . The mic certainly opens up a new dimension to the game, only I find sometimes on warpath we are having too much of a laugh with silly noises and players trying to imitate my british accent that we lost often lol. Still its so much fun I cant get angry at them. Be brave and remember theres always someone out there either younger than you or older
