So as some of you probably know there is a Game Developer's conference happening in March. And during that conference Valve is holding a panel. The panel is called glNext: The Future in High Performance Gaming. Now many have speculated that this is to be the unveiling of Valve's next installment of their Source engine, better known as Source 2. Now before you get doubt in your brain about this actually happening, here is why. Valve has 3 major games going on as of right now, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Team Fortress 2. They've been doing a good job of keeping constant updates, but for the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive fans, and Team Fortress: 2 fans, these themed updates/seasonal updates have been kind of upsetting compared to the earlier "more hype" updates. Earlier this winter Valve stated that there would be no updates to Dota 2, in order to prepare for a major engine update (Anyone calling Source 2??). Next since Valve is hosting this said panel how weird would it be for Valve to come out on the panel and say "We are going to show you the next thing in graphics, through our older games" It would look weird, right? Which furthers us also to believe that they might shed a little light on the LONG time coming release of, yes you guessed it, Half Life: 3. A couple of years a go 4Chan got to talk to Gabe Newell(Co-Founder of Valve Software) and asked him about some games. Gabe Newell further says that they will not release Source 2 without a new game to coincide with it. But as many assumed early, instead of Half Life 3 that also might just be Left 4 Dead: 3. But none the less, if Valve is able to make a game with the number 3 next to it, I'll be satisfied.
