Well my birthday is coming up and i need to decide what i want to get with teh money. ^_^ i was thinking an mp3 player and cant deside between the 80gb Ipod or the 80gb zune. anyone have any input one way or the other? i use iTunes already and like iPods, but zunes seem nice and i wouldnt mind giving them a try. and not to mention i would different than all the rich kids at my school with ipods. LOL

I say Zune all the way. For whatever reason people don't like their stuff it must be their own opinions, I think it is very easy to use the included software.
ipod- Itunes (good program), you get to look like your cool with your white ear buds, people think your rich omg!
zune- maybe not as pretty, larger screen, more video formats acpected. Games coming soon.
i say zune, and this is also a cool feature with the zune software.

I just got an 80G iPod through a friend who works at the Apple store. I'm very, very happy with it. I continue to, and always have, hated iTunes. It's a virus, and I despise it to the core of my being... luckily, you can use WinAmp to do your music management.
I have an iPod shuffle for when I do my running, but if I were to get a regular device, like what you are looking for, I would rather have a Zune. Mostly just because I don't care for Apple, and I like Microsoft way better 
Oh and Thor, I am not 100% sure, but I think that you can export stuff off of the new iPod touches, but those cost a lot of money for something very unnecessary. Kinda like all of Apple's products actually...

My iPod failed on me just after the warranty ended. That was like 3 generations of iPods ago, and I only went back because the Shuffle was so awesomely lightweight and easy to use.

Then my wife washed (and dried) it with her laundry (it's so tiny, I can't really blame her). So I have no MP3 player and am thinking about getting a Zune myself.

Forget them both. I have this one, and I love it. (I'm VERY hard on my mp3 players, too. I take mine back and forth on the bus to Los Alamos every day and bang the heck out of it.)

Aftermarket support, quite simply.
Whatever accessory you name it, Ipod has it. Cheap too, since the market is so saturated with accessories.
Also the main thing, Vehicle support, from factory and Aftermarket. Most all factory cars have an IPOD input which allows you to control the IPOD from the car stereo and steering wheel. No other brand will work. Yes they have aux inputs, but you still have to have the Mp3 player sitting somewhere, you still have to play with its interface, and you can't charge it!!! Unless you have 2 different cables running.
I'm heavy into the car industry and Ipod is king.

Ok well, personally I like Zune...for me the software is simple, mine was tough(until i lost it w00t!) and I just liked it, held my songs, my videos...my background...was really nice. Has a pretty good screen, and you can just press a button to go up or down instead of using a scroll wheel(but it does have similar technology but not a wheel if you want to use it)

Either way it just depends on what you feel like buying and what your biases are towards certain brands.
