Automatic Windows Update Problem

So I'm having a problem with the automatic Windows update. This one is 22 long and gets stuck/frozen on 8. I'm assuming that one of the files is corrupted? I've Googled the solutions, tried system restore, etc. When I tried system restore, I got an error and Windows was unable to load, so I had to recover it. I didn't want to try that again, as I don't want to lose all my stuff. If I stick it out and wait for the next Windows update..should this go away?

I had the same issue when I did my updates the other day - Not sure what helped, but here's what I did, in no specific order:

- Let it sit longer then I normally do when I login

- Let the updates run through the night

- Restarted computer

- Restarted router/modem

- Unplugged/Replugged the ethernet connection on the back of my computer

An alternative - If you can find out which file it is that is taking awhile to download and post it here - I'm wondering if it's just trying to overwrite an old version.

It's a REALLY big update. Saw this at work as well; just had to let it run. Almost took 2 hrs to resolve.

Gotcha...not sure what happened but it updated fine last night. Instead of 22 there were only 19 this time, and it didn't take very long.

There was a bad patch (KB3001652) that has since been pulled.
