I thought of posting this now since I think I just had mine... I don't like liver, but dear god this one nearly killed me trying to eat it.

At the store I happened across some Willapa Hills spreadable artisan cheeses (boy, isn't that the buzzword of the decade...) made fairly close to me that were on sale. Bought a Garlic & Herb one as well as a Bacon Blu. I love a good blue cheese, so I figured there was little chance on that last one being a bad option. And dear god did I pay for that...

I spread a little on a wheat cracker I also picked up and took a bite.

Know those smells that are "so bad you can taste it"? That was this cheese's flavor. It felt like it was burning my mouth, not due to pain or anything, just how it smelled when I ate it. It was like someone had made the cheese by cleaning out an ashtray into the mix is the only way I can describe it.

I tried the other one before hoping for a plague to hit their cows, and it was fine and dandy. No evil taste or anything, just a little underwhelming.

I've had bad cheeses before, the worst of which prior being a sweet green cheese I got curious about once. But this thing... Oh dear god I can still taste it in the back of my mouth...

I guess it's the one time I ate Pho with tendon in it...the only time I had a texture issue. So it's become a challenge, I will conquer you yet tendons!

Hahahaha, mine is nothing exotic, but still fairly traumatic (apparently).

You know how, when you're a kid, you put the black olives on your fingers and eat them off, then start again? I did that one too many times, with the predictable result. It was so nightmarishly horrid, though, that I still cannot eat olives... thirty years later. Even the smell of olives starts to set me off. And it's not just black olives - it's spread to all olives.

Makes me kinda sad... my husband and son love the garlic-stuffed green olives, and I think they look kinda tasty, but I can't get near them. :(

Hahaha. Memories. Still remember my first encounter with some weird food. Went to the country side in Romania(was invited by a friend to stay for a week and relax- common in Europe) and had some weird stuff . The food staple is(country side) being served with smoked pork fat slab(like bacon without the rims of meat and firmer), raw onions(sliced), tomatoes and depends by the region feta cheese(all very tasty). But was asked to try something by telling me it was good. They were breaded things(thought nuggets) and when I bit from a piece something seemed weird. It was very mushy(crisp exterior though) soften tofu like and the taste seemed awkward. Asked them what it was and they told me it was fried veal brain. wth they served me? They stared at me for a bit(was baffled and sad) and then they started laughing and making jokes. It seems to be a delicatessen there but still, a warning would have been appreciated. They also tried to serve me grilled pork kidney(did not try it- I understand trying new things but I'm not a contestant for fear factor).

Time to kick it up a notch lol. Had a Reuben sandwich at a restaurant that I used to go to often, however this wasn't your average run of the mill Reuben. Attached to one of the slices of corned beef in the center was a massive artery. And when I say massive, I mean about as thick as your thumb, and 6 or so inches long. Luckily I noticed it before that section got to my mouth, and I obviously stopped with the sandwich at that point.

A few months later, I attempted to have another Reuben at a different restaurant for the first time since the incident. That sandwich had multiple arteries (albeit smaller)!!! Needless to say, I have not had another Reuben since.

That's actually a dang good question... I know it's not unheard of to get veins in your meat if the butchering is done by an amateur, but repeatedly after a certain date? Did they change meat sources or something? XD

Reubens are one of my top 4 sammiches, the other two being muffaletta (pretty pricey thanks to the cured meats on it), and then a tossup between a cheesesteak and french dip. French Cheesesteak..?

Still remember my first Reuben too. My grandfather's old assisted living facility (for retired military only) in Orting was doing them for lunch one day when my mom and I visited him for something. One of the guys in the cafeteria offered me half of his sandwich and it just floored me, both the action and the flavor.

When I was 19 and working in Japan I decided to go do some snorkeling on one of my days off. I saw some locals collecting sea urchins so I thought I'd help out. I grabbed one and took it to this old lady and through mostly hand gestures she suggested I eat it. I was reluctant but eventually caved. She cracked it open for me and handed me this yellow gooey substance that looked like something Jabba the Hut would cough up. I put my fears aside and gave it a go. I didn't even get close to getting it down. I gagged the entire time trying to Swallow it but I just couldn't do it. At least I gave the locals some free entertainment. They were laughing at me the entire time.

Pretty much my reaction to every story mentioned in this thread, lol

*edit* I dunno what's wrong with the Reubens around here D:. And it's not like the restaurants were of the same chain, or even in the same location lol

I got a bottle of *hot* Sauce called "Pain is good". tried it on some tacos. Lets just say I clench every time I see the bottle in the fridge. And I mean the other clenching.

Terrible food experiences, wasn't really food, but someone suggested that I try using pepper spray on my food. I diddnt know that pepper spray wasn't really pepper, so I tried it, and wanted to die. Pepper spray on food is worse than a habanero in the eyes(also did it)

And I cannot make this up, but I had a hot sauce called "Devils crotch" I SWEAR ITS LEGIT(and is really, really bad)

Hahaha. Memories. This isn't food but pepper spray related. Was 5 or 6 then. In romanian pepper spray is called paralyzing spray(spray paralizant). It was summer and there were a ton of mosquitoes in the house and we ran out of the killing spray(used it the other day) and I really hated their bites. So found the "paralyzing" spray(my mom used to hide it in the night stand drawer) and thought if I couldn't kill them at least I could paralyze them and have a good night sleep. So was looking for them with my brother and he saw a couple in the bathroom and calls me. So I started spraying in their direction(me being so soaked about getting those critters) by spraying the hole ceiling(and not a squirt but full blown spray-like a para spray in apts rush-italy). Boy was that a bad idea. Our faces were burning as hell :(. I went to the sink while my brother jumped in the tub trying to wash our faces. And one thing I learned that night is that water doesn't work(u keep washing and washing but the burn wont go away-the horrors). My mom heard the commotion and went to check on us and when she saw us she started yelling at the beginning(something like didn't I tell you not to touch the spray-or something to that degree-couldn't hear a thing she said, could only hear the water running). After a good couple of minutes the effects subdued(still hurt- but manageable) she started lecturing us on why we should listen to her, that she told us(those kind of lectures). Still remember that glorious day :)
