wewo?s quote of the month:

Some people say they feel very small when they think about space. I felt more expansive, very connected to the universe.

Mae Jemison (courtesy of Brainyquotes.com)

This month, I ask that everyone who reads this Newsletter expand your mind. Think about the gaming world generally and how eGO fits in it. Some of us play non-eGO supported games, build gaming rigs, and play on non-eGO servers. Tell us about those experiences, what you like and dislike, who you know and where you play. If you have not noticed, eGO is expanding and reaching out to others in the gaming community. Do not be afraid to experience the newness. And, if you have any gaming related news that you would like to share with the eGO community, feel free to make a Dropbox post or PM me. Enjoy.

How does one go from zero to hero? Only one person can answer that question and he is one cool dude! This month, I managed to snatch up ZER0C00L, an Advisor in the CS Division, for a fun and very interesting interrogation. So, without further ado, let us see what he has to say.

flamelauncher11: So, ZER0C00L, what is your role in the CS Division?

ZER0C00L: I am the Advisor for Recruitment and Server Filling and being friends with everybody at all times.

f: What is your opinion on recruiting and how is the program performing today?

Z: I've always seen recruiting as the most important program within our community. Recruitment is what keeps our divisions standing, and ensures that we'll have support for our servers and website. Recruitment ensures that the next generation of leadership members for our programs exist, so recruitment is very important. We'd be nowhere without our active recruiters or our divisional Recruitment programs.

f: Well said. Speaking of recruiters, how would someone go about joining the CS Recruiting team?

Z: To join the CS RC team, all you need to do is be an eG or eGO, and have an interest and dedication to fill servers, and recruit. Even if you aren't a successful recruiter, if you have the drive to help the CS division for the better, they just need to message myself, or any RC. Our current RC's are Flamelauncher11, Winnazzz, and Instinct_.

f: Thank you for the information! So let's talk a little about you. I'm sure you've heard this question many times before, but how did you come up with the name 'ZER0C00L'?

Z: Well. Many people believe that my name originated from the movie Hackers. This is a lie. Let me tell you a small story about how I got my name. Upon the mountains of Goronta on the planet Farmor, I went inside a cave and upon my entrance I saw ancient writings engraved within the walls. I stayed on the mountains for 40 years translating and learning what was carved into the walls and I discovered every writing said ZER0C00L. I began to hear voices whispering ZER0C00L and fell to the damp cave floor. The mountains of the planet collapsed and I fell through space and time and landed in the Indian Ocean. A man on a fishing boat pulled me onto his ship and asked me what my name was, I responded with ZER0C00L. The old fisherman grew a beard instantly and pulled out a wand and yelled "Hashihowa!" and I appeared at home in front of a computer screen at the Edgegamers application page. It was bizarre.

f: That's quite the journey! By the way, did you ever do the infamous EdgeGamers Mustoreo challenge when you received your Advisor promotion?

Z: I have not done one. If I choose to do one, I'm going to go into a McDonalds in a snazzy suit, walk up to the counter with shades and ask for mustard packets, then sit down and start smothering Oreo's in the mustard and eat them like it's no big deal and record the reactions of the employees and customers in there. It will be glorious. I'll do a freestyle afterwards about Mustoreo's. But I'm not a rapper. B)

f: Sounds like a great plan! We will all be looking forward to your video! Anyway, that about does it for now. Thank you so much for taking time to sit down and chat a bit. Before we wrap this party up, do you have anything you'd like to say to the eGO world?

Z: All I have to say is game on and keep repping eGO. Join our newest Jail server as we begin our push into CS:GO!

-Oorah! And there you have it, folks! Now, you heard the man. Get on CS:GO and get that ST! Until next time, this is flamelauncher11 and ZER0C00L signing off.

The CS Division is one of many wonders. If it's not the almost noticeable stream of anime images and characters, alternative music, and movie tastes...then I don't know what else makes this division different from the rest. It's one of many wonders, and begs yet so many questions. So, let's take a trip down the sandy, concrete, or leafy trail, depending on your map choice, and see what's happening in this alternate dimension of awesome shooty-shooty, pew-pew, bang-bang, you're dead, action.

First off, I've noticed that a CS:GO Jail server has cropped up recently. This is as a result of the closure of the CS:S Jail server, which saddened and surprised some of us. However, this new Jail server seems to have been welcomed with open arms. So, to quell my confusion over this server opening, I had the wonderful chance to speak to NMsniper (Advisor to CS Division) to outline many of my concerns and questions about the division.

The purpose of opening of this new, exciting, and modernized CS:GO Jail server is to try and reach back to the core roots; everyone in the CS Division liked the Jail server, to an extent. The division has pushed more into the CS:GO area of gaming, rather than the Source version due to the game being more updated and modern and more in touch with what gamers like and desire.
.
That being said, many of the CS communities have moved onto CS:GO rather than Source, simply due to the wider variety of options available within the game. The community around the Source game moved to GO, simply with rising popularity, ease of accessibility, and changes in gaming trends. Like I mentioned, games tend to have this influence on communities.

With all this talk of CS:GO, believe it or not there's a rather equal split within the community. Not a definite 50-50 split, but more of a fair share between each, although Source users continue to migrate to GO. It's a situation where if you've played one, you're likely to use the other at some point.

That aside, even with the rising popularity of CS:GO, and a somewhat evident decrease in popularity for Source, I've been informed that it is extremely unlikely that servers on the original classic CS:S will be dropped, unless the obvious foreboding dilemmas such as inactivity, poor attendance, upkeep, or just overall interest start to happen. Servers won't instantly be moved and they will stick with the current servers they have, until they see fit to make a move.

On top of all this debacle, there appears to be more new and exciting opportunities arising and being put forth within the CS Division. It's all under wraps, and top-top secret. For some strange reason, all NMsniper can tell me (no matter how much I offer him cookies and milk) is that more awesome stuff is going to happen. He's not announcing anything yet; just repeating how awesome and exciting things will likely be. I'm sure the community cannot wait!

With much of this aside, I thought it's only fair to get some words from the man himself:

"Out of the whole of eGO, we're pretty, fairly popular, a couple years ago we knew we had a massive following, I reckon I know most of our members- so with that, I think we're doing very well activeness and popularity wise."

As I normally do, I like to stir things up and get to know how stereotyped and prejudiced us Scottish people are...I've asked the age-old questions...let's see what answers we get!

Mr_Nicoll: What do you think Irn Bru is?
NMSniper: Is this... like a thing for Alcohol? Brew is like that, isn't it? Am I a mile off?
MN: Irn Bru is actually a soft drink... what is it with you people assuming it's alcohol?

MN: Haggis?
NMS: Sounds like a name for a person... something you'd say to a person down the street. Is it like a person's name or slang term? (Gives a photo of a Haggis) It looks like a pumpkin... fair enough. "Hey Haggis how's it going?" "Did you see Haggis this morning?"

MN: Describe to me a typical Scotsman:
NMS: Everyone wears a kilt... and that, I know it's not true... but I've always wanted to
wear one. (Wear your sister's skirt) It's not the same. Just not.
"I reckon there's a pub somewhere, where they watch repeats of Scottish shows... go home and have a pint... and wait for things to blow over...."
Not a blatant Shaun of the Dead reference...

"Play Jail!!! Something is cropping up soon!"

If you have yet to enjoy the fun events in eGO's Minecraft Division, you are really missing out. The MC Event Coordinators are working hard to create interesting events to keep you entertained nearly every day of the week. You can join them in the servers and/or in TeamSpeak 3 to learn more about upcoming events or just jump into one when you have a night free. They are open to everyone and it's a great way to meet some new friends in EdgeGamers.

Here are some things to know about MC events:

Join the MC event room in teamspeak!

Mastermind Night

If you like mind games, then this is your night to shine!
Mastermind is exactly the same as the board game! The
EC creates 4 color combinations and it is up to your wit to
guess the correct combination using wool blocks. The player
or team with the fewest guesses at the end of each game wins!

Minigames Night

There are many minigames in our minigames world and you never
know what you may play next! It could be your old-time
favorite or a new favorite!

Minigames Showcase

With such a large portion of our community in Europe, why not showcase our minigames at a time in which our Euro friends can participate? This event will showcase one minigame for an entire night.

Guinea Pig Night

What isn't more fun than being on the bleeding edge of the EdgeGamers event? This night is devoted to testing out all of the neat event ideas that the ECs and members come up with, so if you have an idea for an event, then don't hesitate to talk to anyone on the EC Team.

Event Prizes

You can win event tokens, which you can use to trade for prize items in our server!

MC uses Dragon Eggs as tokens:

Dragon_Egg.png

You can trade tokens for prizes at: /warps prize

ECs will distribute tokens to winning players after the event ends. Usually tokens are handed out at the prize room; the EC will instruct you, in chat, where to go to claim your prize.

To use tokens, right click on the sign of the prize you want! Note that some prizes require more than one token!

Click here to see the list of prizes you can claim!

Useful Links
  • Time zone converter, click here.
  • eGO code of conduct, click here.
  • To see all MC event descriptions, click here.

If you're interested in volunteering your time to assist the ECs, consider this great new program: Acefire's Personal Panda Squad (A.P.P.S.). This program is open to all ranks of MC members but you will need to submit an application to be considered. A.P.P.S. is an experimental team intended to work with the ECs outside of event times to help build things.

Team Fortress 2, also known as The Hat Game...2!

Our friends at the TF2 Division held the one and only Arena: Respawn competition and it was a huge success.

What is Arena: Respawn? Well, pretty much a mod where, if you play TF2, you are very aware that after being gunned down to the trousers, you wait a few seconds and go back to action. In Arena: Respawn, instead of getting one life every round (or so), if your team captures some respawn points, every dead member in your party will be brought to life instantly.

Pretty neat when you are the last dude alive and there are 10 guys screaming in TeamSpeak 3, "RUN TO THE SPAWN POINT, DAMN IT!!!"

As our buddy Mister Adam (TF2 DL) says: "This goes on until either one whole team is dead or a team fails to capture the point. If a team captures the point, after awhile if the other team hasn't captured it, it will unlock the point and the team that capped it before can cap it again to end the round."

As you know, BF4 has been sponsored by DICE and EA. What made this event so special was that this one was fully supported by Valve, the creators of Half-Life 3, expected to be released next...century! We also received the help and participation of Dolby Digital and Sennheiser! It's so cool when respected corporations join hands with gaming communities.

Weapon banning was essential to create a competitive and struggling environment for everyone; weapons like the Vaccinator were not allowed during the contest (Google it).

Matches were held between February 6th and 8th as well as from the 13th to 15th. Missed them? Well, then you missed your chance to get nice prizes sponsored by Dolby Digital, for example the Kindle Fire HDX Tablet (for all your forever loneliness needs!).

But do not despair, oh young gamers, because the next tourney will probably be held next summer! Stay tuned...

And as usual, for our readers who do not read: here's the YouTube video explaining what the heck I was talking about all this time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X0FiwcbI0g

Read ya' later
