Hello folks. Question on lag

Long time no see. Pardon my absence. Its been a crazy 4-6 months.

So now that im back for some DoD. Im wondering if there is anything that i can do about this lag that im having since the servers have been moved. Before. I was around 60-70 ping. Now i bounce from 200-350 ping. Which makes game play very difficult. If anyone has any tips or links that they could send me that may help a bit. Please feel free.

Most of our pings raised by 30-40, but yours is way higher than it was. So far, we have just had to grin and bear it. Or grin and bare it. Not exactly sure about that saying, but I digress...

I am not 100% sure that the new location is permanent, so it may only be temporary, but unless you get an answer here from some of our more techie members, I would suggest posting your concern in the drop box, marked for the tech team. They may have an answer that we do not.

If I recall correctly, Meg and/or Anni were compiling a traceroute thread for the tech team/leadership.

Not sure if that's still a thing, but you could try running a traceroute to one of the servers (perhaps a couple times to see if there's any latency difference) and PM'ing one of them the results.

To run a traceroute:

On Windows 7 and earlier - click the start menu - click Run - type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the text box and click ok/hit enter.

On Windows 8.1 - right click the start menu and click Command Prompt (this might also work on other Windows versions, not sure though)

type the following: tracert IPADDRESS

(example if you were to run a traceroute to the Kalt server: "tracert dod_21.edge-gamers.com:27015" or "tracert 74.50.111.253:27015"

to copy the text, the easiest method would be to right click in the command prompt and click select all, then push the Enter button to copy (then you can edit what you want to send in the PM in the PM reply box, notepad, wordpad, etc)

There's been an increase in ping across the divisions I mainly play (DOD and CS). I believe it has to do with the new address but I'm confident that Leadership will have it solved within a few weeks or less.
 
Not much need for a traceroute, the ping increase happens at the server host.

Funny enough it would appear they are using Juniper devices given the RFC1918 addresses returned in the traceroute, and those are the only ones that I've seen respond with such addresses.

I assume the move was for DDoS protection of the servers. Logging every packet that passes thru your device is gonna cause some delay.

Sucks, but I suppose there's really nothing else you can do on your end unless you decide to pack your bags and live with the server box.
 
i play on the 247 ava server a lot my ping is between 50 - 80 now occasoinaly bumps 80 - 130 tops i noticed didnt relaly pay attention till i read now guess it does help when you have a long ping thanks :w00t: are open could it be as smiple as cleaning out the computer
